Is it normal to believe cyber criminals should pay the ultimate price?

OK, hold on just a second. I'm not talking about cyber criminals who might be seeking monetary gain, here. That's bad enough, but at least there is a point or purpose for the attacks.
I'm talking about those people who disseminate the viruses that cripple untold millions of computers, disrupt virtually the whole world's communication online and cost everybody from the biggest companies to each individual affected, billions and billions of dollars, just for their own amusement.
Jail is just too good for these malicious criminals. They gain absolutely nothing and everybody affected loses big time.
Perhaps if they knew that they would pay with their lives, they would find some other way to amuse themselves.

They should not pay the ultimate price because such actions do not constitute the ultimate crime: murder.

There are worse criminals who do more harm and deserve harsher punishments, but sadly gets away with their crimes....

  • If capital punishment were effective, then that may well deter some of the others, since a lot of them are probably fairly selfish individuals to begin with. Or, upping the ante might make them do worse things if they are now risking their lives.
