It's normal to believe in god or not to believe in one. Neither view is all that unusual.

How can anyone take you seriously, when you can't spell properly the word 'serious'?
      DUH! Backwards is !HUD.
HUD, is a 1963 western film. Read the plot.
HUD is also an acronym for the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, who are re-nowned for their Utopian ideal.
HUD is also an acronym for Head-up display.
Normally, people use capital letters at the beginning of sentences and for proper nouns.
Maybe there's a connection between the U.S. Capitol and God?
It is people, who are shallow and prone to make errors that have distorted the truth. God should be spelled with a lower case 'g', except at the beginning of a sentence.

You're completely wrong, the Christian God is always spelled with a capitol 'g'.

Also you spelled it with a capitol 'g' yourself, so you look pretty stupid right now.

Why only the christian god? God shouldn't be spelled with capitol "g" anyway!

Dude that's just how it is. You can spell god however you want, but the bible spells God with a capitol 'g', so don't start knocking people down if you are ignorant about their religion.

You're the exact kind of people that make us atheists look like a bunch of pricks.

You are both retarded. Capitol is the building, retards, and capital is an uppercase letter, morons. god should always be spelled with a lowercase "g," even at the beginning of a sentence. I do this because it offends people and is blasphemous.

              Comment Hidden ( show )
          • disthing

The 'g' is capitalised because in the context of The Bible and Christianity, 'God' is a name. The name of the Christian god is God in English language translations of The Bible. He or it may also be referred to as Yahweh, a Hebrew name for the Jewish and Christian god, or by other non-English names. But all those names will have a capitalised first letter in an English language context, as that is standard in English grammar.

It's like if you named your son 'Son'... Or your pet cat 'Cat'. You see?

But this isn't only reserved to the Christian god. The 'A' of Allah, the word for the god of Islam, is capitalised as it is also a name. All the names of the gods of ancient Greece have capitalised first names when written in the English language. This is standard. It just happens that in English, Christians tend to call their god 'God'. Understand?

I know... I wasn't really arguing that it should be not capitalized; I was just joking...

For me it doesn't matter anyway because in german god is spelled with capitalized "G" ("Gott")

Incidentally I don't care how God/god is spelled...

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to notice that. I did it intentionally to prove a point.
Please tell me again that this entire Universe was created for Christians. Maybe the entire Universe was created for you?
I am very disappointed to inform you that we were all wrong, including myself. I have 'inside' information.

Of course its normal! Sadly we now live in a world where pop culture tells us that believing in God isn't "cool" and as with most of the people on this site the world listens to the media. Its sad really... but dude you are normal do not let ANYONE tell you otherwise.

I like how every time someone disagrees with something they go 'IT WUZ DA MEDIA!'.

Most atheists/agnostics disagree with the common view most major religions hold of an all-powerful, all-good, and all-knowing 'God' because it doesn't logically make any sense and the Christian rebuttals have been either over-the-top crazy explanations or an appeal to ignorance. Not because the media told them to.

Believing in a deity is fine, agnostics have one of the strongest arguments because we truly CAN'T know if there is or isn't something higher than us. But, the Christian God has all fingers pointing towards not-existing and people can't seem to let go of the age old traditions that they keep getting handed down.

It's normal to believe whatever you want.

As long as you are not thinking that your beliefs are the one and only truth. That is where the problem with religion begins.

For argument's sake, let's just suppose that there was a supernatural creator of the Universe called yahweh.
Let's also suppose this creature had contacted Humans in our history, and asked them to please write the proper name down.
About 990 years later, some Germanic peoples decide to change the name of this creature.
Later they decide to give this creature a gender (male), then later still, decide to capitalize the name when it is properly not capitalized.
If you were this creature, would you
be pissed or what? And yes, that's exactly how they want me to tell you.
I'm trying to relate a message to you, that is from creatures related to yahweh. They tell me to tell you, that you are stubborn, closed-minded and disrespectful.
They ask me, to tell you to please pick up a history book, so that I might be able to convey this message to you.
There are truths in what many of you believe. Even what I believed a short time ago is not entirely correct.

God has a special relationship with all of His children, he also speaks to them. However, He states very clearly that He is God. And if He were talking to you, you would not hear a voice but simply become enlightened. This happens after you pray for His wisdom or read His word. And yes it's normal to feel His presents in a church, He loves to be around His people.
However, be careful, what you are describing sounds demonic. You should never feel like you are God, as He would never lead you to feel that way. Satan has no problem with you believing that you are God because it pulls you away from Him. In fact, Satan doesn't much care what you believe in as long as you aren't a Christian. So yes, he may even go as far as to try and trick you into believing you are God. He will to do anything to separate you and God. The Bible says that he will even disguise himself as a angel of light. Satan used to be an Angel so he is very smart and knows the bible better than you do! If you feel like you are God then this is his doing, not God's. Get baptized if you haven't already and pray for the Lord's protection, because you are not God!

    Yeah, it is.
Don't let it affect your friendships.
I'm a Mormon and most of my friends are atheists. We just don't talk about religion. There are other things in this world to talk about.

If you HAVE to talk about God, go to a place of worship. Not everybody is interested in Theology.

    No it is not normal.

Belief in God is an aberration that started some time between 20 000 and 100 000 years ago. It is almost certainly due to the unavailability of schizophrenia medication for most of human history.

But don't feel too bad, many people share your affliction. There are support groups for recovering religion addicts.

Since somewhere between 70 and 90% of Americans believe in a god I would say that it is definitely normal.

That being said I do not and I don't think it is logical. Normal and logical don't always mean the same thing.

  • TerryVie

I say it's not normal, for the following reason:

You used the word believe. Believing someone means trusting this person while not knowing.
No matter which religion or god you refer to, it's all something that was passed down among countless people and in many cases heavily diluted with other religious aspects or holidays(take christianity for example..."Easter" was a pagan fertility festival for the goddess Eostre, with her symbols being a rabbit(for it's fertility) and an egg(for the origin of life)...sound familiar?)

What i am trying to say is: Either you find, for yourself, a knowledge of god, and are "AWARE" of "it's" existance, know there is one(or more), and don't need to believe, because you _KNOW_.

Or you're like me, and find that nothing rings a bell for you, stuff doesn't add up, no one sounds right, and you just pick out a few good pieces of advice across several religions, but consider yourself the opposite, commonly referred to as "non-believers", although i, for me, also _KNOW_.

Truth, in cases that can't be proven scientifically, is very subjective. Make sure you KNOW, either way, and don't just "believe".

Religion has been the norm for most people for years. Religion has not been rejected this much till recent years. In fact they are still adding more religions which would say religion is something that is common.

However everyone has adopted this rebellious attitude of going against the social norms. By rejecting everything which before seemed to be the norm and anything there parents believe in.

Which sounds more like something a 16 year old would do but is now becoming the new social norm. Being old does not mean you are bad and being old fashioned does not mean you are wrong.

Attacking religion is no better then attacking someone for not following that religion. Anyone who does either of these is nothing but an insecure bully. If they are not hurting anyone why change them? Dont fix whats not broken. People dont we now have laws against bullying and they came about for reasons like this.
