Is it normal to believe in god but not believe the bible

Is it normal to believe in god but not believe the bible is the word of god? I just wonder if I'm the only one who has noticed the errors in the bible and who feels it doesn't need to be deified to have faith in God and even the teaching of Jesus.

People each have their own spiritually. not everything speaks to everyone,, find the parts of religion(s) that resonate with you and adopt them.

I believe in god, but im not into organized religion. and i been to many different types of places of worship.

all real (Scientology not included) main driving factors are moral guildlines to being a good person, and to love your fellow man.

I think it the people that have a bad experience with organized Religion (over-zealous believers) that they write off all religion as a joke. Which is wrong, and missing the point of religion entirely.

So my best advice, is to keep an open ear and heart when i comes to religion and in that way you can find what works for you

I think your opinion is reasonable and plausible.

Well that's an easy one. I believe in a Christian god because I have had, throughout my life, what I consider personal supernatural encounters with this being. That being said I do believe this being can relate to people in many different ways or "names". Faith is supposed to be a simple thing not over complicated with organizations and committees. It's supposed to be about love and helping others and the search for the unknown unexplainable parts of us that searches to connect with something greater then ourselves. The Christian way is a good way and I believe Jesus was significant to the world, but I don't believe he came to start a new religion. Other Men did that.

Speaking as a christian I don't take the bible as 100% BUT there are a lot of helpful and also seriously important scriptures. I know the type you are talking about though.

I remember reading somewhere that the stories in the Torah were never meant to be taken as being literal. They weren't real life. I think they were only supposed to be examples. It is the Christians that take them as being literal.

Anyway, if you don't want to follow the bible, it is fine. You retain that right as religion is what you make of it.

Well considering how many times they moved and changed stuff in the bible I could see where you might think so.

You have escaped the twisted obsession that religion teaches. Congratulations for trusting logical thought and your own good sense.

  • The Christian god was invented from the Christian bible so how can you believe in one but not the other? You realize theres thousands of religions and gods out there, why is christianity the correct one?

You make me laugh dude. You are saying "..You realize theres thousands of religions and gods out there, why is christianity the correct one?.." You know what the only logical and reasonable answer to that question without getting a biased response, is that it's because Christian GOD is the only proven existing GOD. And there is none other gods beside him. His presence, his acts, the events that he had done was scientifically proven. You want to have the evidence? go and take researches so that you should've known. I know it's normal for you to be strange at these things because you didn't take researches or learn of him. But afterwards you take researches and knowing that he is existing... there are still more interesting things to show up, and more and more... what you're experiencing now is the first step in knowing OR not knowing GOD. you should've choose carefully.

Are you into any of the thousands of religions? Just curious.

Yes that is totally possible. Due to the vast tragedy of knowledge over the centuries many of the truths have been destroyed in religious teachings including the bible.

There are thousands of different Gods, which of those do you believe in?

Do you believe in just one of them? Why do you not believe in all of the others? How do you know which of them is real and which is not?

You wouldn't know God besides from reading His Word, the Bible. Since you're going to believe in God, believe also in His Words which is the Bible. You couldn't take one and forsake the other. Remember, it's takes two to tango. So the only logical response over that case is that if you want to know God more, then you should've read and believe His Words in the Bible. And let His Words explains Itself on proving God's own existence.

If the only way to know god is through a book, (that is assumed to be his word), then God can be like any other fictional character in any fantasy book, And people who would believe in god under that basis would be fools. If you believe in god for any other reason than a genuine, personal experience/s with him, than you are a fool.... books can be manipulated, miss-translated, misinterpreted, rewritten, miss-copied,...etc. They are not a reasonable or reliable method for belief in any subject..... the "church" may try to have a "form" of godliness, but they are powerless and flaccid, except to, it seems, persecute others who don't think, or agree with their foolish view of the world... and all of that has nothing to do with GOD...

The only reason that the Bible is the only legitimate source to know God, it is because besides from the Bible there is no book which tells solely about God. Plus you can't tell that the bible could be manipulated or misinterpreted or whatever it may be, because the Bible is cover to cover, back and front been checked and canonized by the authorities on it. And also God in the Bible couldn't be a fictional character since the God in it has revealed himself in Israel and has been showed his presence and been written in the History. He proved his existence by his works. He proved hi existence by his words. He proved his existence by his presence.. So that's why if you want to know God more, learn to read his Words so that you will understand and know about him.

Yeah, you'd be called a theist/deist/pantheist then. Or whatever label fits you.

GOD is True, GODS Word is True, religion focuses on what we do for GOD instead of what GOD did for us

To call the bible the "Word of God' is to make it like god, it is making it an idol. It turns Christians into Idolaters of the worst kind.

The purpose of a fishtrap is to catch fish, and when the fish are caught, the trap is forgotten.
The purpose of a rabbit snare is to catch rabbits. When the rabbits are caught, the snare is forgotten.
The purpose of words is to convey ideas. When the ideas are grasped, the words are forgotten.
Where can I find a man who has forgotten words? He is the one I would like to talk to.

    I'm completely the opposite.
I think there's heaps of good messages mixed in with the bible but I don't really think god exists (he could, who knows)

Maybe you feel the bible contradicts what you believe.

Would it be a good time to look for answers outside of the bible?

The bible has a lot of good things, but anyone that has studied even a little bit of it knows that it is, past and present, Hopelessly flawed. Many things in it where for another time. The need to Deify it just smacks of a need to control others.

..........to believe in God with out a reason is wishful thinking. I have my reasons for my belief and they are not found in a book. I hope one day you find a reason, and if not, I hope you find peace in your own way...:)
