Is it normal to believe that sheep are as smart as dogs?
I believe that sheep are just as intelligent as dogs are. I've known somebody who had pet lambs and sheep, and I have seen videos of people keeping sheep as pets, and they were playing fetch with their sheep who fetched and brought the stick back. And the lambs were even more happy, playful, and springing around (I love how they jump in those springy ways). Also, one owner had a lost sheep who found her way home after losing her at a relative's house about 7 miles away. And I saw sheep that had learned on command to sit and shake hands (shake hoofs in the sheep's sake (and shake paws in the dog's sake, of course).
I know that sheep have been far less known than dogs to be things like seeing eye dogs, but alot of that is because far fewer people have taken the time to train sheep in such a way. Most people have stuck with raising sheep in large flocks for their wool or meat, while most dogs have been for pets. And sheep are much less likely to be able to be trained as attack sheep like people can train dogs to be attack dogs, and that's simply because sheep are too timid and too gentle. But it doesn't mean that sheep are less intelligent than dogs. Sheep can't become attack or guard animals like dogs, but sheep can play fetch, find their way somewhere over a distance, learn to sit and shake, and recognize people they haven't seen for a while. Sheep are as smart as dogs
