Is it normal to bite the skin off my fingers, and not be able to stop?
I've bitten my fingernails for a long time, and I bite the skin off of my fingers, but I can't stop. I know it's a bad habit, and it causes me pain rather regularly (either from me biting off too much skin and my fingers becoming raw, or from bleeding, etc), but I just can't stop no matter what I try. The closest I've ever gotten to stopping is when I wear gloves, but I can't wear gloves constantly. I got lace gloves to try to wear them more often (The lace makes it so I won't be hot always), but I still need to use my phone, so it's too inconvenient. The pressure on my wrists from me biting my fingers has started to cause severe problems with my arms (the joints click, hurt constantly, etc), but I still can't stop doing this. Is it normal to be having such trouble with stopping this bad habit, even though I'm going through so much pain by doing it?
