Is it normal to call something funny a (funny)

so sometimes if i see something funny or hear it i call it a 'funny', also i have a folder of these 'funnies' on my desktop if i need a quick laugh

also i say it sometimes and people don't get it and it's annoying because are they so stupid they can't understand?

    I've only heard Splinter from Ninja Turtles do this. I thought it was a mutant rat thing.

    My cousin and I do this sometimes.

    "I made a funny", sounds normal.

    My mom sometimes says "did you make a funny?" instead of using the word joke. I think it's more commonly used by older generations so some people may not have been exposed to it.
