Is it normal to chew my fingers when i have anxiety?

I instantly say its not normal because it sounds weird. But I want the communities opinion.

I'm not talking about chewing nails. I'm talking about around the finger/skin area. No I don't make it bleed or anything...

Thoughts?

@Augustpeach Yeah I think what triggers it is anxiety mostly. Anxiety and being bored.

I've been doing that for years I heard putting bad tasting stuff on your fingers or wearing gloves helps. My therapist told me to try and focus on what thoughts trigger the action

Do any of you know a good way to stop this habit? It's embarrassing to always need to hide my hands from people. It effects me at work to.

I find myself biting the skin on the backs of my knuckles (palm side) and any callousy, someone hard spot. It's horrible and they hurt sometimes, but it's so hard to stop, and it's freakishly soothing...

My ex used to do that, so you're not the only one. When I get nervous I chew the insides of my cheeks :S
