Is it normal to compulsively search the internet for racist comments?

Sometimes, when I sense racist comments are to appear in an article/video (ex. "Gang violence in Compton" or "Animal abuse in Shanghai"), I try to scan the comments for racist ones, and compulsively reply to, report and/or thumbs them down (especially if they have thumbs up). Unfortunately, seeing those comments makes me depressed for the day. Is this normal of me to do this?

And yes, I really should be having a life instead of doing this, but for some reason, I can't stop myself.

Racist comments are usually false. Not everybody in China abuses animals, and sadly abuse happens everywhere. In some parts of Europe and even the US animals are treated like crap because they're seen as nothing more than livestock. Not all gangsters are black or Latino either..most but not all.

  • Get a life. "Racism" is really not such a big deal.

By the way, I'm inclined to ask; what's your take on anti-White racism?

    • It is just as bad as racism against other races.

Yeah, I do that too. Homophobia, racism, misguided knowledge. It just annoys me. Are you by any chance an INTP because supposedly we're always correcting people?

  • By the way, this is not exclusively about racist comments. Sometimes I will scan through all the comments with misinformation and reply to almost all of them.

I have this weird urge to make a racist comment just to see your reaction.

I did kind of the same thing after Aurora but it had nothing to do with racism.

It sounds like you have emotional problems and you are purposefully doing this to invoke an emotional reaction from yourself.

Personally, I don't take the racist comments too seriously. It's really easy to see the same skin color of people doing the same thing over and over again and attribute it to the entire race. It's human psychology, it's how we classify things in ways that will keep us safe. It's evolutionary. Just as well, it's a very simple mentality and the human psyche loves simplicity.

I think there needs to be a stop. Racism is bad, I will admit it, but it's still someone's opinion and they have a right to it. However, once they begin forcing their opinion on others, arguing with others who do not wish to debate the point, putting others down for not believing what they say, on EITHER side, that's where it gets taken too far. There is a boundary between free speech and freedom of opinion and being rude, hateful ("You're a fucking idiot for not agreeing with me!") and harassing towards others and I think that both sides of the spectrum need to stick to their respective boundaries and put down this ridiculous mentality that the concept of Freedom of Speech only covers speech that THEY find agreeable.

    • I agree for the most part, for example if you say "I can't stand [race]". But I think the line would be advocating genocide or wishing death against a race (ex. "Your race should be wiped off the planet").

Well, if we're saying that, I would think we should apply that moral standard to everyone. For example, someone saying "all stupid people should be allowed to die" would be crossing the line.

I have never been a fan of the mentality that one human being, who inevitably has a limited perspective of the world, should be able to assume the role of judge, jury and executioner as many people like to think that have the capability to do, though.

I do it sometimes, too. It is just that those racist comments are so dumb that I think they are really funny! I know I shouldn't, but...

You want justice and rightly so.

    Keep fighting the good fight.
