Is it normal to cook your pets home made food?

I have two pet rats and i have heard that if you give them a nutritional diet they will ive longer. The pellets they sell in the store are ok but i dont think it gives my rats all the nutrition they would like nore does seeds because they just pick there favorite parts out.

SO, i make them brown rice with grilled chicken (unseasoned), carrots, broccoli, lowfat cheese, occasionaly sardines in soybean oil, mushrooms, sometimes calilflower to replace broccoli, ect. I wanted to know if it was normal to feed mypets homemade meals more than bagged foods.

Aww, rats are lovely. My friend is a very experienced rat owner and she tends to use lab blocks as a base and then supplement this with a little fresh fruit, cooked meat and the occasional treat (like letting them lick the lid of her dessert).

The lab blocks are important because it can be difficult to judge whether the rats are getting enough vitamins and minerals and this covers it and then just allows you to supplement their diets how you want.

I DO NOT SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH COOKIN' MEALS FOR YOUR PETS, I HAVE A SOFT-COATED WHEATEN TERRIER AND A TERRIER MIX AND I COOK FOR THEM ALL THE TIME. THEIR FAVOURITE IS ROASTED CHICKEN TOPPED WITH CHEESE AND MASHED POTATOES AND I GIVE THEM CARROTS AND ASPARAGUS, HAVE DONE THAT FOR THEM ALL THEIR LIVES SINCE THEY WERE PUPPIES, MY WHEATEN IS NOW 14; {4 YEARS PAST EXPECTED LIFE SPAN}, AND HEALTHY AS ALL GET-OUT AND MY MIX IS 5. SO GO ON AHEAD AND SPOIL THEM THEY ARE AFTER ALL YOUR BUDDIES.

WOULD LIKE TO PUT A CLOSING NOTATIONAL HERE TO CLEOSDOC; "LEARN HOW TO SPELL."

Yup, I cook for my three dogs-2 purebred dobermans and a jack Russell x - I give them a mixture of roo, chicken, beef and kidneys, brown rice, egg, carrots and peas. Also put fish oil and calcium powder in there and garlic... They absolutely love it!

Normal, I would recommend checking out some of the home made diets you can make on the net that are nutritionally balanced - that's the main thing you need to aim for, good balanced nutrition. I used to breed and show rats and used a diet that was recommended by a very well known breeder. I suggest googling it!

Normal, but not common. If you have the time then do it, real food is always better than lab made food.
