Is it normal to cut off the skin on my feet compulsively?

Okay, well I know that this is not normal exactly. But I'm wondering how bad this is. I don't do it to cause myself pain, as the skin on the bottom of the foot is so thick as to peel off in thick layers pretty easily. However, it often gets to the point where I constantly walk with a limp, or only walk on my toes because I always cut/peel off deeper than I intend to, resulting in raw and bloody patches that hurt terribly when touched. Not really sure how bizarre this sounds...

I do the same thing! I use nail clippers to cut the callouses on my feet. Sometimes I cut deeper than I intend to as well. It's not normal or healthy, but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who does it.

Go buy one of those ped eggs that they used to advertise on tv, u can but them at a walgreens or a store that sells the "as seen on tv" products. It'll get rid of that dry, dead calluses skin n leave u with a nice soft foot. It kinda has like a cheese grater kind of looking contraption that slowly cuts away at the rough skin as u rub ur foot across it. N it also seems a lot safer than just cutting the skin off you foot :P

Oh n p.s. just like the other person said, feet are quite a breeding ground for bacteria, so the open wounds n stuff could turn bad n get all infected, so if u continue just cutting at it... Try not to make any wounds O.o

I used to do the same thing, however I did not have a single callus. I did this when I was fairly young, maybe at the age of 10 or so. I'd Stab a scissor into my heels just under the skin, and then cut and peel. Sometimes I'd even eat it, not sure why. My heels were multilated and very raw. It would hurt to walk and people would stare when they saw the sight. Thankfully I grew out of it and have no scaring or issues from that time in my life. Definitely not normal, but definitely not alone.

I'm pretty sure that there are things you can do other than always cutting and peeling skin off. There are creams and/or these skraper things that will prevent it from peeling so much.

I'm just confused that there are now two squirrel girls. In my head, though, new squirrel girl is always going to be "underscore".

Original squirrelgirl and I have very similar numbers - I wonder if that means there's an underscored dappled waiting to leap out of the woodwork too.

Actually, I'm triply confused because, in my head, I always think of MissSorel as Miss Squirrel. There are squirrels everywhere! Although that's probably a good thing. I'm very fond of squirrels.

*hand up* I used to do this too. A lot as a teenager, not so much now. For myself, I hated having horrible looking feet (lol I'm one of those foot people) so I was constantly cutting back toenails, removing callous skin etc etc. I'm sure you will break the habit like I did and just be careful about going to deep. Feet are a breeding ground for bacteria.

It's probably callous. And you're probably creating more callous the more you continue to peel, and cut it off.

I do it too, I use a super sharp knife on my caloused heals then 3 feet of emery tape to linish the bottoms of my feet every week. I want to buy a variable speed belt sander to get right down to the base of the heel and get all the cracks out, I just did my feet last night and Im in a bit of pain now the emery tape was a bit too harsh in some places and has left me with some patches of thin sore skin, the warm shower was too much for me to stand in tonight! Try mixing up a wheel barrow full of mortar with your feet. The lime will break down most of the dead skin, I did it once with my hands and they were like babies hands after 30 minutes but a bit sore!
