Is it normal to deliberately take your hair off?

I've had this bad habit for a couple of years now... I touch my head looking for hair that doesn't feel good, maybe too curly or too thick. When I find one, I just take it off.

The worst part is I just cannot stop, and, as it's normal, my hair is starting to grow again, so I've got all these little hairs on top of my head, and it looks really messy. I really hate it, but I can't help it, is it normal?

I have a version of that, too. Unlike most people, I usually don't pull the hair, though. I just tend to scratch my scalp and go searching for crinkly hairs when I'm by myself. Occasionally, when I find a really thick one, I end up pulling it out, running it through my fingers and examining it. I used to bite my nails in my teens, but don't any longer. Sometimes I wonder if one habit replaced another, in the same way people often go from one addiction to another. When I was little, I used to rub fabric between my fingers. I suspect it all has the same behavioural root. It's called an impulse control disorder, btw.

I'll do it if there's a stray thick or curly one but wouldn't look for them deliberately I've spent too long growing my hair to ruin it x
