Is it normal to dislike complicated phones and texting?

Currently I have a cell phone, and it's very simple:

Caller ID
Voicemail
Incoming calls
Outgoing calls
Limited texting

---that's it.

Nothing overly complicated; no apps, games, expensive ring-tones, no internet - nothing. Nowadays I think phones are overly expensive and just... damn, I feel like I'm shopping for another computer whenever I'm surrounded my modern phones. For some people, phones like these are awesome (and, why not? Have your fun!) - but personally, I like to keep things simple and people keep trying to get me to buy them.

I have an issue with texting too.

Perhaps it's the abhorrent spelling or the tediousness of dialing tiny plastic buttons over and over again to form a pitiful sentence; then again, I'm almost tedious with how I type (irony). Usually, I'll get a message like this:

"so how r u now??"

and I'll reply, "Currently, I'm feeling a little down. Maybe I need correct my sleeping schedule? I was up all night again. D:" and people think it's strange when I type like that.

So, it is normal to want my phones to be simple and to dislike texting?

I love my iPhone and all it's perks. I wanna touch it in the back of a darkened van. Still, when texting...I never use the short cuts either. It disturbs me.

You sound like my boss. I saw his phone in a portrait of Henry the eighth once and even old Henry was looking a bit snooty at it, like it was antique even then.

In seriousness, I know what you mean. I work in technology and I'm supposed to be at the forefront of it. I bought a phone with everything on with the plan of programming for it and, yeah, I had my kicks but now I use it for phoning, texting and the internet only. Some days the only thing I wish it was, is smaller.

You're a minimalist. Tell me you don't use GPS either? If yes, then if you're ever lost on some roadway when suddenly all phone batteries go dead, you'll be the only human capable of using your spatial skills and possibly a printed map to find your destination.

I'm the opposite. I'm glued to my little mini computer (my Samsung Galaxy phone). I like texting instead of talking. However, I also still use my handy Motorola Razor phone because it is unbreakable! I've had it for several years.

I can sort of see your point here. I don't outright hate texting in itself... But what I do hate is people do it at the most inappropriate times, and of course, the spelling errors and shortcuts drive me up a wall.

    I'm with ya.

Anytime I check out phones it's as if you either have to take a cheapo piece of crap or what's essentially a small computer. I'd like to have something in-between. Simple, straightforward and not a flimsy chintzy P.O.S. and with a keyboard because I can't stand texting on a numeric pad.....but apparently that doesn't exist..... I'll find a phone I like but usually the catch is it HAS to have internet service....which is a big NO for me....totally unnecessary and expensive.

But I don't hardly ever use them anymore so whatever....

I believe you are old and having a hard time accepting the new generation & new technology. Its normal to hate misspelling and what not, but seriously this is a unrelevant manner, if you like it old school then go ahead " ♪dont worry be happy ♪"
