Is it normal to dismiss christianity just because how it views sex?

I was raised christian, and I think that a lot of christianity makes good sense, especially compared to other religions. But the deal breaker for me that made me reject it was what it says about sex. Only allowing sex within marriage is one if the most fucking stupid things ever, and seems to go severely against male instincts. Also, how the bible says don't look with lust, or something along those lines. Like, that is some seriously impossible bullshit. Is it normal to completely reject christianity only on the basis of how it sees sex?

If you dont like christianities view on sex you ain't going to like what Islam hates about sex.

I know, Islam is even worse in many regards like that. But the rest of christianity seems so plausible to me.

The gospels don't actually quote Jesus as saying much about sex, although the passage you're thinking of ("everyone who looks at a woman in order to covet her has already committed adultery with her in his heart") is in Matthew, and so something Jesus supposedly said. But bear in mind that, although most Christians have the idea that the author of Matthew was one of the disciples and he was quoting something he heard Jesus say, Biblical scholars believe the book was actually written in around 80 CE, and the author was an anonymous Jewish scholar.

Paul - whose writings are the foundation of much of Christianity - really had a hair up his ass about sex and women in general, so much so that you've gotta wonder about what sort of sanctimonious, twisted person he was. Some biblical scholars believe Paul was a closeted homosexual in denial of his sexuality. That would be extremely ironic, considering how many Bible-thumping homophobes turn out to be secretly gay.

If many of Christianity's moral teachings resonate with you, there's no reason for you to toss them out along with the sexually-obsessed dross. Fortunately, most of us don't live in a society where we're all required to buy into a particular religion's brand of BS, and we're free to pick and choose between the tenets of various religions if we want.

Good response mate! I forgot about the whole homosexual deal because it does not directly affect me, but that is another sex related strike against christianity. The whole idea of christianity is so radical that I did not want to belive it, but could not find a good reason in my head except for sex.

I think churches do a great disservice to christians by portraying god as some cuddly all loving fuzzball. If you read yhe bible God is ruthless and wants to be feared. He doesnt care if you want to have sex before marriage or not. He doesnt agree with it. God took sacrifices, told people to stone others to death, nuked the city of sodom, and flooded the world. He doesnt care that people want to have sex. He will send them straight to hell for it.

Just make sure you ask jesus to forgive you for all your sins before going.

    • You sound like you believe in him. I'm not worried about all that shit because I don't buy christianity. But the real question is, do you think it is normal to reject christianity because of this?

I mean... its kind of weird if you think about it. If you believed the bible were real until you read about the sex "policies" thats weird that that would make you think its not real. Seems like you're thinking with your emotions. That you dont like what it says so you choose not to believe.

        • Well, the rest of the bible cannot be proven. We have to belive without evidence. So its like if someone says something you know is bull shit, the other things they say that you are not sure about, you decide also to not belive because they have lost your trust.

A lot of what we know about history comes from the bible. It lines up with what was documented from the egyptians and the greeks. So yeah some of the bible can be proven. Whether God is real or not can't be proven tho.

            • Heaven, hell, salvation and the existence of any angels or god himself have no proof at all. Some historical things may be right but that is not what counts to me.
