Is it normal to do this?

A person once told me that he locks his dog in his car at night to keep people from stealing his car. Is it normal?

Wow a lot of judgementalness on here. Well the dog is treated well and given food and let out to use the bathroom, as the story author clearly stated, so you all need to STFU

if i saw that i'd wanna break into his car anyway and save the dog!

  • NO and it is also cruel. Although I dont believe he does it and iffin he does, he should be reported to the RSPCA or equivilent where he lives!

    • He lets his dog pee and poo before locking him in his car at night. The owner is a friendly person who seems to care for his dog. I wouldn't do it in the Summer though because things may get a little too warm for the dog. Could fry his brain?

    Cruelty
Someone who actually cares about their dog, doesnt lock it in their car.
He cares more about his car than the dog's life, thats just sickening.

Isnt their a such thing as a garage and car alarms to protect your car anyways?

It's cruel. A dog needs a place to use the restroom, eat, drink, sleep comfortably, and run around. EVEN at night. Ugh.. I hate people sometimes..

    OMFG NO!!!!!
    omg thats fuckin cruel
if you are a smart person you will call a local animal authorities, and if you cant find that then call a local veteinary office and they can help you, people who do such things should fuckin die..
also thats selfish obviously they care more about their car than an innocent life.
    makes me sad =[

You're kind of...a freak. I have a dog and in the winter or fall I know they would rather sleep in the car or the house rather than stay outside. Saying that he should be reported is like saying I should report my parents for having my dogs sleep in the garage or sleep outside in 20 degree or lower weather. You need to realize you're not the only one who matters. There are some people who have different opinions. His dog might like sleeping in the car. You don't know if he does of not. You shouldn't report someone for mistreating the dog if the dog and the person still get along well and if the dog is still happy. Its wrong to take a happy pet away from their owner and put them in the pound where they'll be killed if they are there for so many weeks.

    • He seems to care about his dog so he doesn't think it's wrong to do this.

Well now, there are several faults with that plan. I do believe they were listen above, so I won't bother getting into them.

The best way to keep people from stealing your car is to get a garage. Simple as that.

Some people are different. To him this might be normal.
People don't agree with cannabalism either but where its practiced it's completely normal.
You have to take into account that everyone is different. Even if you think its horrible you must remember that your opinion isn't always the one that matters most.

Of course it isn't normal. Its CRUEL to lock a dog in a confined space like a car. Especially in the hot weather. Dogs need space, food and water and a place to poop and pee. He shouldn't have pets if he's gonna treat them that way.

I "lock" my dog in a crate at night (after she's peed and pooed). But, a car is full of things a dog can chew on, rip, swallow, get caught on, and more. I think that's dangerous. Plus, one morning, he could wake up to find the car window broken and the dog gone. People steal dogs too.

Sounds pretty sexy ;) does he spank the dog too and call it a bad boy?

So is anyone who lets there dog sleep in those stupid little cages a total asshole that needs to be arrested or whatever? No. Those cages that some people put their dogs in are legal. A car is much larger. Only difference? I think the dog would rather sleep on the car seats than on the floor. Don't be retarded, the dog isn't going to DIE or become sick or whatever from SLEEPING INSIDE. Matter of fact, the dog is much much safer and better off sleeping in a car than in the backyard, as long as he is let out in the mornings to roam free during the whole rest of the day.

There's a band called Dogs Die In Hot Cars.

That's another reason why dogs shouldn't be left in cars (even with the windows open).

Besides, he's clearly not thought about the poor animal needing the toilet/food etc etc

Hot cars are hot because of a greenhouse effect. Greenhouse effects only work when the sun is out. The sun doesn't come out at night.

The owner of the dog could possibly be an early riser who lets his dog out of the car in the early morning, when the sunlight it still too weak to heat the car.

      • Think he works early but still should crack windows to let fresh air in and heat out. Otherwise dog may pass out.

No, that's not illegal, and, there is such a thing as a guard dog. I'm guessing this dog would have to be pretty big to stop potential car thieves.

  • ecoole

well not really but it would work but is kinda mean to the animal you should never do this either keep it on a long chain that can reach the car of just lock your car in a garage or in a shed or the back yard or in a rental garage
