Is it normal to eat ham straight out of the packet?

I feel like an uncivilised savage when I do it, but I've started doing it anyway, after getting on the keto diet.

When hunger strikes - and it sometimes does, when you don't eat carbs - one finds himself in need of a snack. An open packet of sliced ham thus becomes eerily alluring; a roll of entwined slices - so delicious, yet so primal in this unrefined form - drags one's attention to itself, as if manifesting a disregard of its own existence; as if eager to satisfy one's hedonistic passions.

In but a few bites, the roll of ham, torn from is plastic packaging and its meaty brethren, becomes nothing but fuel for the great machine of life, death, and destruction known as "I", and the only aftermath - aside from the abated hunger's cry - is the mind's reflections on the measures a man must take to ensure his survival...

So how savage is it, exactly, to eat ham straight from the packet?

Savage would be killing the pig and taking a bite.

Packaged ham is probably 90% water with a bunch of preservatives and salt added.

And I won't touch that crap, any of that cheap packaged luncheon meat, processed with all the fillers. I like one of those real, thick ham steaks, that have the bone in it.

Honestly. I'd prefer to never eat ham.

    • Kosher is the way to go! I’m not Jewish, but I respect their diet that prohibits not just pork but bottom feeders as well.

I'll eat bacon, but ham, oh ham is just so gross. I also hate spam and I'm not so fond of hotdogs. I do like Hebrew National hotdogs though.

Hebrew national hotdogs are one of the only decent tasting hotdogs, they're all beef, any hotdogs that are not all beef are gross. I like real ham, like the thick slices of honey glased ham steaks, but that packaged ham with all the fillers in it and whatever, I won't eat that, and spam is gross.

          • I like Nathan’s kosher dogs as well.

I’ve wanted to try beef sausage as well, but have t been able to find it near me.

  • Normal, the only thing that seems abnormal here is the little to no carbs diet. Imo, it's dumb unless you have some kind of sickness, and were recommended that diet by a doctor.

Healthy humans have been eating bread, potatoes, and whole grains for thousands of years, with the exception of processed white bread.

Not related, but I'm going vegetarian, and I have a similar problem with vegans/vegetarians who act like being veggie is innately or automatically healthier.

Lean meat, fish, and chicken breast are all natural, and studies have proved their benefits to the human body. You'll get nowhere using fallacies and dishonesty.

I do the same thing. I'm on a similar diet, I don't eat bread, sugar, starch, carbs, etc. Basically, all I eat are various salads, eggs, nuts, fruits, vegetables, meats, and cheeses. Definitely notice a sandwich without bread seems like a cruel indulgence, and some people think it's odd. Given particular diets, it's quite normal. In some cases, necessary.

It's best to stay off the very low carb diets like the keto and Atkins diet. You have to have some carbs for healthy blood glucose levels and for fiber. To feel and to be healthy, you need to moderate, eat a good amount of protein and eat the right amount of carbs you need. Just don't eat too many carbs, and make it the right carbs. Any carbs won't do. Gotta make all your carbs high vitamin and high fiber. Each day, eat three different good helpings of protein, at least 25g - 30g protein each, 75g - 90g of protein a day. It can be beef, chicken, fish, eggs, cheese, milk, or beans. Then fill the rest of the day with vitamin rich fruit, veg, and whole grains, eat at least 20g - 25g of fiber a day. Avoid transfats, high sugar, and processed foods.

  • I do the same thing with hotdogs. I eat them cold out of the package and drink the water.

Your truly lucid description of the animal fulfillment gained by gnashing flesh made my mouth water. I am looking forward to cringingly delicious language that goosebumps my brain with electric excitement. And so, a salute of admiration from me to you. Write on.

Too salty. I prefer biting into raw chunks of pork.

It's not savage at all, the main reason I don't do that is because it disappears too fast. So I make sandwiches instead. I buy the more expensive deli fresh meats, but I also have some cheap baloney on hand too.

Yeh, all that cheap packaged processed luncheon meat with all the fillers, I would have to be starving without another ounce of food within 50 miles.
