Is it normal to eat take out this much?

I order take out once a week. I am trying to lose weight and the rest of the time I eat very clean and I work out. I only have about 10lbs to lose. Is take out once a week too much if you're watching your figure? How often does your average person order take out? Just trying to figure out if I'm being lazy/soft on myself.

Every day 1
Most days 3
Once a week 12
Once a month 8
Hardly ever/never 4
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Once per week is fine. Most people do more than that, especially people who are single. I've had some lazy or busy work weeks where it's easier to call for delivery or hit the local chain or sports bar places, and think the same as you..I'm being lazy and this isn't good for me. Doesn't happen often, and at home I do eat fairly healthy. Just difficult to eat well when out or from takeout. It's convienence food. Just don't make it a habit.

    • I suppose if I do it every week then it may count as a habit... Maybe I should skip a week to see how I react. Hopefully I won't turn into a screaming fat girl demanding ice cream 😂

  • Eating it once a week is perfectly normal, and shouldn't set you back as long as you don't overeat.

I suppose it depends on how fattening the take out is and if it’s just one meal or you have leftovers to eat from it. There’s a diet/health plan called “Body for Life” that I think is pretty good. It suggests a healthy lean diet six days a week and let’s you eat what you want on day seven. However, it says “eat what you want” doesn’t mean eat like a pig all day, but to be reasonable. Seems you might be doing the same. Good luck.

    • Yeah, I used to go crazy on my cheat days! Back then I'd eat small amounts of low calorie foods, do way too much exercise and then wonder why I wanted to eat the world on my cheat day! I think I've balanced it out better now by making sure my normal days include enough calories to support my exercise programme so when we have our cheat days it just means a normal healthy day of eating but for dinner we share a normal size pizza with a small side, no dessert, and a modest glass of wine. So hopefully not "pigging out"
