Is it normal to eaves drop on random conversations?

So I find myself doing this a lot ...
I'll be sitting in class and tune into a conversation two people around me are having. They don't realize that I'm listening in so when one of them says something funny, I accidentally laugh out and they look at me like wtf? Also I sometimes forget I'm not actually apart of the conversation and say something. Other times I'm just observing and have this weird out of body experience and see myself listening to these two people, totally caught up in what they're saying but just sitting there. It makes me feel pathetic like I don't have a life or my own cool stories to start a conversations with.

AH! I do this though! Though I can control my laughter and my own inputs. Usually it makes a ride with the bus so much more enjoyable and I have heard so many retarded and funny conversations.

But yeah a huge part of me really want to contribute to the whole deal if they are saying something interesting/stupid.

'so what happened in the end?'... and they just look at you... If people are talking so I can hear, you can't exactly not listen, I think its ok.
