Is it normal to experience gory dreams?

okay so my friend had this really fucked up nightmare, she texted me about it and said she thinks she needs a psychologist. Here's how it goes:

"i had a really weird dream where there was this human and these scientist experimented on him (it was all in first person btw) and then eventually they did something to him that made him hella sick and then they chopped his hand off cause he was vulnerable and shit and he was like bleeding all over then it cuts off right away to them cutting of one of his fingers then it cuts off again right away and theres a dog and you can assume that these "scientists" turned him into a dog (idk why but a specifically a brown and white newfoundland service dog) and then they fed the dog, or the man in the beginning, his own finger as a treat and you can hear the bone crunch. then it was all a film and then i turned to this person in my dream and i was like "thats fucked up what the fuck" and they were like "i know right" and then i woke up cause i got spooked."

is this just a normal dream or is it something to worry about?

Dreams can be pretty crazy sometimes, I don't think it's anything to worry about

OK if it's not a recurring dream.. Dreams can be pretty weird and they're always influenced by what you've been seeing or thinking about.
