Is it normal to experience uncontrollable and unexplained shivering

Hello,

I am glad I found this site as I am not alone with this experience. Last night at midnight I suddenly was awakened by uncontrollable shivering and chills. I got up to get a second blanket and my wife was freaking out as this had never happened before with no reason to explain it. A few years ago I actually had the flu and fever like symptoms. I was treated with antibiotics and eventually got better so I know the difference. This came on suddenly with no warning. First, I was not warm to the touch when my wife who was awoken by the violent trembling shivering had checked on me.Then I began to get hotter to the touch. The shivering would not stop so my wife poured cold water over my head. I tried going back to sleep and could not stop. My teeth were shattering and I could barely talk. Its as if I had walked into a freezer. My wife began praying over me. I experienced no fear only that I could not stop shivering. After about 3 hours of this and haven taken Tylenol, I fell asleep. Some of you have suggested Thyroid disorder and a stage in REM sleep that while in transition to another sleep stage is prolonged may be the cause.I will say that I have been using a CPAP air machine that helps treat my sleep apnea.Has anyone else had this event and also being treated for sleep apnea and does anyone think there is a spiritual or paranormal?
I hope to not experience this again. Thanks for reading and sharing.

Sounds like sepsis due to an infection. Go to the doctors immediately.
