Is it normal to fatten your cat up?

My kitten is so little, I want her fat like my other cat, her mum was thin and I have been trying to fatten her mum up. They're just skin and bone, and she eats like she is starving. De-wormed, she eats MY food, so she obviously wants to be fat, so what foods whould I feed her? Margerine isn't working.

Yes, if they're underweight 74

Fat cats are cute, but please don't feed your cat margarine.

Don't feed the cat margarine lol. There are much healthier things that will still help a cat get to a healthy weight. Even store bought cat treats add a lot of calories to a cats daily intake.

I found my cat at a Petco adoption center. I fell in love instantly...he's giant (not fat...seriously giant)! He's 26 pounds, all white and his head is a little bit bigger than a softball. He's bigger than my 3 daschunds. BUT don't purposefully make your kitty overweight.

You were feeding your cat MARGERINE?? LOL that's hilarious, but a terrible idea. You'll shorten your cats life span if you do that. It's really.. really.. bad for them. I'd see a vet about it, but if your cat is de-wormed and eating regularly, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Feed them a quality, dry cat food and make sure they have fresh water. Animals don't normally crave variety; they want comfort food--the stuff they know is safe to eat. That's the same instinct that drives humans to eat comfort food. Stop trying to manipulate your cat's weight. Cats are naturally slender. Are you just envious of that?

If your cat gets really fat it will get diabetes. If he is underweight, its fine but seriously, it could KILL him.

Go ahead and fatten him up, if you want him dead in a year or two. That is animal cruelty.

Dude, don't try to make your cats fat. And certainly don't force your cats to eat more than they want to. I think cats with a smaller weight can be just as cute as fat cats. That, and fat cats can come with health problems, and die at earlier ages, do you want that?

Overfeeding a cat can be abuse.

it is your responsibility to provide a proper diet for the cat. if you cannot do this then you shouldn't really be raising a pet.

However there is one exception. If your pet is a blood donor then (some) obesity is actually a requirement.

I'd say her health is more important than if she's 'cuter' chubby or what not.

  • lolz, title made me laugh. Yeah if they're skinny, I had a skinny cat and I've been trying to get her cat food she likes so she'll stop eating the marshmallows out of my hot cocoa.
