Is it normal to fear for a long time?

Ok, this is really beginning to bother me. Ever since i was a child i always felt someone was watching me when i'm about to go to sleep. I thought it was just a phase i had and thought in a couple of years i wouldn't think about this anymore. I'm now in my late 20's and i still feel the same..i'm tired of being afraid or aware for this. It has gone so far that i now sleep with one light turned on because i'm afraid of the dark too. Even some nights i can't sleep but not all the time. Is it normal? Does anyone else experience this?

Turns out your fears were logical.

I'm sorry to have freaked you out for so many years, but I must profess, it was me. I was the one lurking in the shadows.

Again, my apologies go out to your frightened brain and the countless sleepless nights.

You just described me!! I am terrified of the dark and swear there's someone waiting around the hallway, under my bed and watching me thru the windows!! My husband says im acting childish but its a long time I've had this fear. It has actually gotten worse and I went to get checked our, turns out I may have PTSD. You may want get checked, too. But your not alone.

before you go to bed, make sure your house is locked and search your whole house to see if someone is hiding. Then check your bedroom when the door is locked, turn off the light and go to bed. If you see something in the dark remind yourself that you already checked your house and it is just your imagination.

  • Try getting a dog. If someone is close by, then you'll know.

No. It doesn't seem very logical.
