Is it normal to feel bad around my family

I've noticed I'm more comfortable being silent than speaking, I only speak when spoken to and I've been feeling low all throughout dinner. Its so hard to tell if I'm overreacting or not. My brother will just constantly criticize everything I do or say (at least it feels that way) but I dont know if im being gaslighted or not because I'm just confused my emotions are telling me a lot of negative things and my head is telling me I'm overreacting.

created an account just to like this

also @op, it doesn't matter if it's gaslighting or not- if you feel like shit around your family then you should try to get away the moment you can. surround yourself with people you actually like. blood doesn't mean shit. family is chosen, not born

leaving my toxic family was the best thing i did, even if i still have to text them back sometimes lol

Please find some positive people who can tell you about the positive things in your life and the situation.

There's an old saying that is very true:
" If you think positive, positive things may happen.
If you act positive, positive things will happen.
It pays to be a positive actor in life! "

May I also suggest the following book:

"Success Through A Positive Mental Attitude" by: Napoleon Hill & W. Clement Stone.

ps: Someone almost always down-votes me when I mention that saying and book... Negative people abound in the world. Positive ones exist as well.

Talk to your brother and tell him its really hurting your confidence. If he is a good brother he should understand. Its not good to have reinforced negativity daily. It can really hurt your self esteem at that age.
