Is it normal to feel detached from this existence?

For some unknown reason I've never really felt a part of this worldly existence: rather like an alien looking in on everything instead of feeling connected to it. Maybe I AM an alien, waiting to be activated at a given signal....
Does anyone else have this feeling of "not belonging"?
No jokers, please.

Perhaps you suffer from depersonalization disorder.

Yes, I understand. But feeling like an outsider does not mean you actually come from another planet, just that you feel that way. Also, I'm not sure aliens are activated like terrorists. They're aliens, not illegal aliens.

But yes, I think you'll find many people, perhaps even the majority, have times when they feel they don't belong. Perhaps for you, those times are more frequent. But you are not alone.

I get that sometimes. My brain tells me that nothing is real so I can do anything I want, however ridiculous. I once walked 3 miles at 2am because I felt like it. I also have difficulty understanding concequences when I feel like this. I'm not sure what causes it but it seems to get better if I have close contact with other people eg conversations. But it gets worse when I am around other people and they ignore me. I hope this helps.

I feel detached from this world too like I don't belong here and I never will. I'm actually hoping to myself that this is all a dream and my true reality is out there somewhere and I'm just asleep.

Interesting. Thanks. Maybe we'll really wake up when our allotted time here is up.

I have felt something like this before. I wonder if I could leave my body and switch into another reality. It makes me feel dizzy and my sight unfocused.

Feeling alone is, as I've seen and heard of it, is less uncommon than you may think. Most of my friends, as I, feel that too more than a few times. But feeling out of place is just a sign of your self awareness; that you can recognize your "disconnection" to those who may, if I am wrong, spend more time in their bodies than their heads, as for I know more words in my head than I can spell with sociality.

  • I feel similar but I definitely feel like I exist. It's everything and everyone else I'm not sure of.

Sometimes I feel like nothing is real, like I don't exist. It might sound funny but sinus problems make me feel even more zoned out.

No I totally get that, I went through a brief period of depersonalization a few months back and it got even worse with a minor sinus infection I think the pressure on your head with sinuses definitely feels like it can zone you out more
