Is it normal to feel foolish for having believed in myself?

Well is it normal to feel foolish for having believed in myself. I mean like try something believing you can succeed but then you fail miserably and suffer not only the pain of a spectacular failure but also feeling stupid that I ever believed in myself and thought I could succeed in the first place.

What you describe is painful, but you should try to look at it as a learning experience and take from the experience anything positive you can. Whatever it was that you tried, the person you were at that time in that particular set of circumstances didn't succeed. That doesn't necessarily mean that you'll never succeed in that goal. If it was truly important to you (rather than something you felt you _should_ want to do because of social pressure or whatever), then maybe you need to take a step back and consider if there are intermediate goals you need to achieve before going for the Big One.

But maybe you might also want to consider if the main problem was hubris. So many parents raise their kids these days to believe they can achieve anything they wish. In one way, that's a positive thing because parents should try to avoid restricting their children and attempting to force their version of a good life on their offspring. But on the other hand, it is simply not true that anybody can become a PhD, become the all-time high scorer in the NBA, have a bank balance in seven figures before they're thirty, or become a movie star.

I think one of the most difficult things in life is learning your limitations, accepting those you can't change and working to reduce those you can alter, and figuring out how to create a life you can enjoy from the resources available to you.

Happed to me when I tried to learn to drive a car. Took lessons and everything. I just couldn't do it. I feel stupid for even trying.
