Is it normal to feel proud of being the runner up?

Yesterday, my sports group went to some dodgeball tournament and we were doing well until we went to the finals we were this close to winning until our team got destroyed. Me and some 14 year old guy was carrying the entire team after being defeated in the finals we celebrated because we never knew we wouldn't have gotten that far into the finals.

I personally feel proud that my sports team placed 2nd because usually we always placed 10th whenever we competed.

2nd place may not feel like an achievement to others but it feels like an achievement to me.

Yes, doing well in any competition is something to feel proud of.

We cannot always win - and we can get better by studying what the winners do.
