Is it normal to feel sad and tired in autumn?

In Autumn, I start feeling tired and getting sad. I don't know why.

Spring is exciting. Fall is scary

I have never liked fall or winter very much. Spring and summer seem so light and fun, and fall and winter seem so frumpy and depressing, for lack of a better description. I hate feeling stiff from the cold of winter while bundled up in layers of thick clothing that make it hard to move comfortably. I hate everything looking so dead and brown with depressing gray skies, and I hate snow and ice with a passion. I also hate the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, as it gives me incredible anxiety for some reason. I hate how the end of the year is just another reminder that time is going by too fast, which also means less time with loved ones, especially as they get older.

I could not stand hearing "Fall is around the corner!!! I can't wait until fall!!! Pumpkin spice latte!!!" as early as mid-July this year, especially since I've had several sick family and pets I was trying to cherish the time I had left with and savor each moment with them, and wanted to pour pumpkin spice lattes on the people's heads who couldn't shut up about how they wished the time would go by faster so they could have their pumpkin shit. 🙄 I know they don't mean anything by it, but it irked the hell out of me.

There are certainly things I love about Fall and Winter. The colorful leaves for example or the vegetables and fruits in my garden. I think it just makes me too reflective.

Yeah, I can see that. I do like the colors and the fresh produce (I love the fresh apples), but I really love the flowers, green grass, and blue skies of summer!

  • Autumn signals a great dying in nature. Plant life stops growing and begins to wither, animals prepare to hibernate and stock up. The air gets colder and there's a stillness that can be sensed outside.

This theme is clearly part of our collective unconscious, as well as animals and perhaps plants with a grain of salt. For humans it commonly represents old age, the beginning of the end.

I just enjoy that I have an excuse to not have to deal with people when it’s cold and miserable out. I prefer fall though, rather be in my comfort zone in comfy clothes vs out when a ton of people are crowded around all the time AND sweating my ass off the entire time. Fall is a fan favorite. But also, seasonal depression is a thing.

It might have something to do with the change in the weather.

Now I am reminded of a song.

There are literally three different versions of the video for this song! 😎

Fall's a beautiful season. The loaves change, it's not too hot, and there's signs of the holidays. Winter is the dark, sad time.

Fall is beautiful, but it makes me sleepy.
