Is it normal to feel that the end of the world is coming?

Ever since I was young I've had this agonizing feeling that I would live to see the end of the world, that it would be in this lifetime. I've always wondered if other people had the same feelings. I hate to think about it and dreaded watching the movie 2012. I am a Christian and believe that it means the Second Coming of Christ...but it's still an unnerving thought. Has anyone else felt that the world is ending? and not just because of all the craziness happening, but because they felt it in their gut...for a long time?

  • The end is coming alright, but not of the world, just for the human race. Scientists call it the Sixth Extinction. These mass extinctions happen periodically every few billion years and wipe out about 95% of species. The last one wiped out the dinosaurs and made mammals into the dominant lifeform on this planet, and the next one will do the same to us.

I also have felt like this since I was a little kid, just an overwhelming feeling of dread about the world coming to an end. My brother has thought the same thing since he was little too, and we just recently talked about it for the first time, so it wasn't us pushing our fears on eachother. So is it normal, yes. Hopefully we are all just crazy

I'm not saying you got caught in hype, just saying that many people did.

After all, the hype, the feeling of impending doom had to start somewhere.

I don't personally feel that way and I think that most people who do just got caught in the hype.

Sure, the end is soon, but time as according to history is different as time according to a lifetime. Soon may be many generations down the line.

Loved the comments about it just being the end of life as we know it. The end of humanity is not necessarily the end. Heck, even the end of this Universe may not be the end.

The big crunch may just be the start of new, wonderful things.

Well that's just what I mean, I didn't get caught up in the hype. I've felt this way since I was a child and didn't really understand any of the things that were "end of the world" related.

Oh, and I don't think it's really going to end in 2012...just anything "end of the world" related freaks me out...but I don't think it can be predicted to the "T" you know?

The world isn't ending in 2012, I'll tell ya that right now. They used to say that 2000 was gonna be the end of the world. They just keep adding on years. I bet once we get to 2012 they'll start saying that it's really gonna happen in 2015 or 2020. Honestly, it seems like a bunch of bologna to me.

I feel like everyone will experience their own "end of the world", and that will be on the day they die individually. When we all die individually for "our own" individual reasons. All of us dying at once...nah. That's just not happening. I mean, we have had events happen where a lot of people unfortunately all died at once. But for all of us, the whole world, for such a reason as the entire world ending, just sounds ridiculous to me.

And to answer your question on whether I felt like the world was ending, yes. I have, but my world, my existence, not everybody along with me.

And don't worry about it. I guarantee you'll wake up on december 13, 2012, or december 22, 2012,(w/e day it is that they supposedly think we're all gonna die.) thinking to yourself how silly it was that you thought the day before would be the end of the world.

I know I sure as hell am not going anywhere. Not before I have true love, get married, have a family, etc. I wanna experience all that before I die, and I can't really experience it fully when 2012 is kinda around the corner. I've been gypped if I don't get to experience it.

    :)

I always had this crazy thought in my head since I was little that the world would end when people started to ignore stoplights...meaning the world would in so much chaos that no one even abides to stop lights if that makes sense. It hasn't happened yet but I see it happening more and more frequently...

A paradigm shift is on its way. The **** is about to hit the fan. It's not the end of the world, but it's definitely going to be the end of global capitalism and rampant corporate greed. We're living in a society that is completely unsustainable. Prepare yourself for the collapse.

I feel this all the time but it isn't the end. It's just the universe doing what it does. Change is upon us and the universal energies will smack us down. We are entering a new age and we will be taught a hard lesson. The fish are following the same path as the ram did 2000 years ago and the same one the bull did about 2000 years before that. Make room for the water bearer - she is coming back - and she is pissed.

And of course I don't mean an actual water bearer. I'm not crazy.
