Is it normal to find it hard to get rid of cats in my garden?

Hello Somenormie here,

Lately, I've been trying to get rid of cats in my garden but it's just so hard to get rid of them, not even scaring them away with a broomstick helps, and no matter what I do they will always go closer towards my plants.

I am someone who dislikes them due to them being such a hassle to get rid of and I wanna know how to get rid of them so I can stop worrying about these things breaking into my garden.

( SIDENOTE: I don't dislike them because I think they aren't cute it's because they are making my life hell by destroying my plants I really do not want to resort to doing the next thing which is probably going to upset people. In short I have nothing against cats but they annoy me for this specific reason ).

    I'm pretty sure Rose and I would be happy to take them off of your hands if we could! 😹

    On a serious note though, both howaminotmyself and Skulls have good advice. Making sure there aren't any ways for them to enter, and/or making the plants an unpleasant area for them.

    Make sure all holes in your fence are sealed over, a cat can get into any hole the size of its skull, check that they don’t have room to squeeze under any gates either. A higher fence will also discourage them if possible.

    I’ve heard of people using cat scarers, metal silhouettes of cats arching their backs that apparently scare other cats away. I’m not sure how effective these are though.

    Try forks, tine side up. It isn't the most aesthetic, but it will also deter bunnies. You can try coffee grounds too, it won't hurt the plants. You can use cayenne pepper too. Dry or in a spray. I have been using a spray made from garlic and lavender to put around the perimeter and on leaves. Just have to reapply after rain. So far I have no unwanted animals munching my plants, just bugs.

    You have options. The point is to make it stinky and unpleasant without harming plants.

    12 gauge? Just kidding. I use a live trap for rabbits on my property. I catch them and give them a ride a few miles away. It catches the area cats once in awhile as well.

      Yeah that's what I do. Bait the trap with tuna and you'll get them. I take them to a park a couple miles away and we never see them again.

    Just curious what do they do to the plants? Chew on the leaves?
