Is it normal to find long escalators incredibly unsafe?

I don't have any problem with small escalators, but I find long escalators really intimidating. I see that there are even escalators going up more than 60 meters (197 ft) without any interruption/landing. It seems insane to me. How can everyone stays cool while knowing that they could easily fall on a steep flight of stairs with a height of 60 meters?! I really can't understand. It doesn't help that I have a fear of heights.

elevators seem more unsafe...escalators are a joy. Would you rather take the stairs?

Escalators can be used as steps

I fell down an escalator once when I was a kid. But then I scraped myself off afterwards.

Escalators, elavtors and concrete bridges freak me the fuck out. I ront know they just don't feel sturdy under my feet snd I despise them. I'm not scared of heights in the slightest but those 3 things give me the eebe jeebies

That is huge. I don't blame you for not trusting giant mechanical devices.

Yeah sure but elevators are worse. I never use elevators, then it's both the fear of it crashing AND the anxiety of being in a small confined space.
Long escalators can be scary but I can tolerate them. Only need to stand still on it after all and I trust my balance.

Yes, but sometimes the elevator is out of service. I nearly missed my train one month ago because of that. I used the escalator finally and very akwardly (too high for my taste, but not record-breaking by any means).
And sometimes there are small escalators so I take them but then they lead to other bigger escalators and you can't escape because they expect you to be able to take the bigger escalators if you can take the smaller ones. True for physically disabled people but not for people like me.
