Is it normal to find omegle enormously pointless?
So I just started - and stopped - using a new chat website called Omegle, and it is the single most laughable excuse for an online chat service to have ever spawned. It is an atrocious insult, and so useless that you could literally have a lot more fun staring at a random image saved to your pictures folder for ten minutes.
What Omegle does is this: it pairs you up from a random individual from around the world (or from the same country as you, depending) and initiates a conversation with them.
But Omegle falls flat for a single reason: Speaking to people on it is not fun in any cirumstance. No matter who you talk to you are constantly asked the same three things: your age, sex and location (ASL), and once you've stated these three things, there's nothing else to talk about.
Worse, anybody can disconnect the conversation at any time. This means almost all conversations will last roughly half a minute. So it's literally minute after minute of failed conversations started up by bored users who don't even know why they're on there. I mean, what use is saying "ASL" when you're not even going to want to talk to this person?
Here's a convo I just had:
Me: Hi =P
Stranger: Hi ASL
Me: 20, Male, UK. You?
Stranger: 17, Male, Iowa
Me: Nice to meet you.
Stranger: Could ya do me a favor dude
Me: Ok, what is it?
Stranger: I dunno lol
Me: ?
Stranger: Do ur homework
*Stranger disconnects*
See?! Omegle is nothing more than a mean practical joke just waiting to humiliate you. It is the virtual definition of tedium, and is in no way a "great way of making new friends". It's seriously depressing to use it.
Is it normal to feel this way about it or am I making mountains out of molehills?
