Is it normal to find these type of rape jokes annoying?

A lot of the time, I hear people making comments like "wow she's so hot i wanna rape her". Ok, I admit offensive jokes can be funny and that includes rape jokes (no, I don't think rape isn't a big deal, it's a huge deal and it approaches murder as one of the most heinous crimes, and I won't approve of them being shouted out in public without warning, but I find some rape jokes funny). I found PewDiePie's old rape jokes as well as several on Family Guy funny. But I find comments that express desire to rape are just plain offensive. It's like someone wanted to bring an offensive joke somewhere but left the funny at home. There's telling an offensive joke, and there's just plain offensiveness.

Is it normal to be irritated at joke comments like "i wanna rape you"?

  • Some rape jokes can be funny. It depends on context. I will even say that under the right context the like "I wanna rape you" can be funny, although I doubt there's many contexts that can make it funny.

It's the same with any offensive case. Sometimes a joke about it can be made that is funny, sometimes it can attempt to be funny and fail, sometimes it can be in bad-taste, and other times it's just trolls.

I find some rape jokes funny but I also think that when someone randomly says "I wanna rape you", clearly just to be offensive, is ridiculous and shouldn't be done, though.

I don't find any rape jokes funny, I find them all offensive.

Not only are they insensitive to the feelings of rape victim/survivors but they trivialise something which shouldn't be trivialised

      • By that logic then you must also hold that view for any joke that may involve hurting someone's feelings or physically being hurt, which limits you down to a very few amount of jokes which are rarely funny. Just sayin'.

So some people getting a momentary laugh is more important than others being denigrated or their experience trivialised?

I laugh at lots of jokes which don't involve physical or sexual violence, or racism or denigration of any group

          • Who is trivializing the experience? It's not like they're just coming out and saying, "Rape. AMIRITE!? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA". No, they set up the joke with the context. Some people get offended? So be it. If you're trying to tell me that expressions should be limited because someone might get offended then that's some serious religious dogma BS right there and I heard ISIS was recruiting.

Tell me a joke. I'm curious here.

Making jokes about serious issues like rape trivialises them into something which is supposedly funny rather than something which should be acted against in any civilised society.

Did I say I wanted any expression limited? In fact I'm not in favour of censorship, but I reserve the right to say when I'm offended, just as you're defending your or others' right to offend me. Nothing to do with religious dogma or ISIS - talk about an over reaction on your part!

I'm not too good at remembering contrived jokes, I'm more into spontaneous intelligent repartee with likeminded friends: when I think of one I'll post it.

I would bend you over and roughly spread open your ass and proceed to hate fuck you while holding you down.

      • Dude, there's a time and a place.

...Which is in fifteen minutes or so at your place. I'll need time to get my kneeguards and gloves on and that sexy pink dress I picked out. ;)
