Is it normal to forget who i actually am when i read books?

When i read books afterwards i forget who i am am have flashes where i think i am the character from the book. Just split seconds, if the main character is a boy i forget that i'm actually female for a few seconds. I don't even know.
Does anyone else get this?

You can become so engrossed in something that it takes a moment to click back to reality. One of my friends is a computer nerd and spends so much time online that sometimes if you ask him what he just said, his reply is "just scroll up and see".

I've done this too. When something is really, really good, I can get so immersed in it and suddenly snap back to consciousness and think, "Whoa! I'm not in South America".

I'm not even going to guess whether this is normal or not, but I can identify with what you're saying.

It's always a bit disappointing when I realize I can't actually shoot fireballs from my hands or that I'm not the king.
