Is it normal to freak out for your fandom?

Whenever I go out or something and I meet someone who I don't know but is in the same fandom as I am ( such as Percy Jackson and Wardstone Chronicles) and I freak out! I know that this is normal for fangirls (my fandom ships a blonde guy with a brick) to freak out and shit but I think I'm overdoing it. Please help me.

It might be normal since you find people that share the same interests as you :)
I'd be really happy but I don't think being happy is the same as being freaked out?

I'm happy to say I have no idea of what it is you're speaking. Seriously, I haven't a clue, cause I've got better thangs to do.

While I wouldn't wish my childhood on anyone I did learn alot of useful things and they lead me to being able to go to college and have the job I have now. What I see going on around me esp in ppl around my age or younger is that instead of having hobbies or activities that teach you something or give you a useful skill so many are fans of things. Knowing a whole bunch of geek trivia is useless in everyway I can think of. I have a few shirts that have some popular media logo or whatever like Star Wars and I'll get ppl coming up to me and wanting to geek out over our shared love of all things Star Wars and its embarassing for both of us when I admit its just a shirt and I'm not really into it.
