Is it normal to freeze-up when talking?

Is it normal to freeze-up in social situations when talking one-on-one? Every time I seem act nervously and begin to chat nonsense, even with family.

I never used to be like this, but it seems to have just set into my personality. I hate it, and it's affecting my ability to make friends.

Is this normal?

You might just be a strong introverted personality. In truth, more information should be given to determine what is 'wrong' with you.
I recommend taking a MBTI personality type test.
Google "Personality test" and take the Humanmetrics test. Then look up your four letters.

I get nervous tendencies as well. It could be a number of things. I had an experience which I believe caused this, but it could vary depending on the person. Hopefully it has gotten better for ya.

It sounds like Social Anxiety Disorder. I'd go speak to your doctor

If you're a teenager it's normal, hormones man. If you're over 20 it isn't so much.
