Is it normal to get advanced student loans? is it possible?

Is it possible to get loans in advance? I trying to go to college but its not in my area. I need a loan so I can move. However I can not start college till I move and I can not move till I get the loans. However I was told loans don't come till 3 months after starting school. Thanks to taxes this year I am actually eligible for a lot of money. Is there anyways to get around this? Has anyone else tried?

It is difficult to say considering you have not mentioned where you are from so I'm going to base my answer on the system we use in New Zealand.

Yes you can but you will need to present proof of admission to your university of choice. There are grants such as the Student Allowance and Living cost supplement available to students but what is available depends on your income (which includes any interests you receive from any investments).

As you mentioned you are receiving a Tax Refund of somekind, this will need to be declared as this can be considered as a potential form of income.

Again this is based on the NEW ZEALAND system, so I highly recommend you speak to your University and/or the relevant government department that deals with your enquiry.

Curiosity, are colleges in New Zealand as crazy expensive as they are here in the U.S? Because higher education over hear costs you about $30,0000 a semester, and obviously you leave school with massive amounts of debt, so I'm curious to know if this is purely an American thing or are there other people from other parts of the world suffering the same plight.

$30,000US per year? That is crazy. I didn't spend even half of that on my entire time at university.

About student loans - they are not provided by private lenders but via the government. These loans are interest free. Personally I believe that education is an investment worth investing in. An educated population is a productive population who can contribute to the country. And I'm glad to say the government here sees it that way.

Not even half? I seriously cannot even conceive that. Classes are like a thousand each, books cost a thousand and tuition is just through the roof, so roughly like ten grand a semester at the cheapest.

I don't mind education being an investment but it should not be one that will cripple you for many, many, many years to come. I've read that Canadian Universities are roughly like three grand a year, which sounds reasonable. That is an investment that I wouldn't mind too much, ideally I would like higher education to be free. Paying ten grand for an education doesn't sound too bad, that I wouldn't mind. But here you come out of college with like a hundred grand in debt, and you will be paying that off until you're at least in your forties. And keep in mind we have interest. I'm not joking when I say that American Universities are crazy expensive, I'm not exaggerating when I give you these numbers. Also here student loans have interests, so I envy that you don't.

Thank you for replying to my question; I think your country has a better education mindset than ours.

          • Well given what a shithole the public school system seems to have become I think paying is the only way to get an education. Public school is better depending where you are at.

A lot of them have outdated teaching methods and a lot of the kids not learning anything anyways. If the public school is in a richer area might have better education. Unless of course the staff is lazy pieces of shit and treat the students like a burden since they are too lazy to teach.

Private school children are generally GRADES above children in public school. While public schools keep dropping and sadly some people can not read by graduation. That is a failure and this proves mandatory public school does not work and never will.

So if everyone had FREE college it would probobly have a lot more idiots. Since public education is absolute shit. Its good for getting your butt kicked or socializing but not a lot else.

There will always be smart children in public schools. I will admit though that if you live in a rich area your school is going to be funded well and the teachers will hopefully care more.

I guess free college would be a problem. But I don't think we should have an extreme opposite be the case. Ten grand for an education is something I can pay off, but instead I forced to be a hundred grand in the hole.
