Is it normal to get intestinal cramps after an upper gi barium swallow

I went for an Upper GI today and had to drink barium for it. They told me there's a chance of constipation, but I'm experiencing intestinal cramping. Not severe to the point of tears, but they're noticeable and hurts when I sit.

I hated doing that. They gave me the same exact thing and it turned my poops white and were as solid as wet cement. It actually clogged up my toilet which never happens to me.

If it gets severe you need to go to the hospital as that's probably a sign of something else, not the testing. If you still have pain a few days after the test I would contact my doctor. For sure if it puts you in tears you need to go to the hospital. Better safe than sorry.

But yeah some mild cramping is not unheard of although not normal with this test. It should be painless although sometimes the testing irritates whatever caused you to have the test in the first place. Make sense?

Barium is not digestible. It just passes through you so that could also be what's causing your discomfort.
