Is it normal to get low act scores??

My first time testing for my act I got a 18. I didn't study or anything. But people have said there is not really a way to study for it. Normal to get a low score the first time taking it? and what have you gotten and any tips?

I've always excelled in academics (even though I don't know if I spelled "excelled" correctly! LOL!).

To me, it's the biggest waste of time. More about test-taking skills.

  • If u want to study for it, just get a bunch of practice tests and those help books... My friend did it and boosted his score from a 26-32.. Thn I tried the same thing and boosted my score 28-32... There are defiantly ways to study for it, it just takes hella lot of focus.

Forgot to say....my scores were low too, and I had top grades in college. Don't be discouraged.

ACT is academic testing score people often take to get into collage. SAT is the same thing but I believe is more math. Some say the ACT is easier.

they're standardized tests typically taken by high schoolers in junior year (11th grade, at about 16 or 17 years of age). colleges look at them to help determine who they want to admit, though they aren't everything. i know for the sats at least that it's made up of reading sections which include vocabulary, math sections, and writing sections which include grammar and an essay. the acts are similar but i believe they have science and history sections and they have a different point system, though i'm much less familiar with this test. basically these are the two major tests most people take and freak out about, even though they really aren't bad at all.

I don't know that studying will help. Maybe a little. I got a 29 on my first dry run with no studying and after taking a class I weird out a 30. It certainly won't hurt as colleges generally take your highest score but it's not like you are going to jump 10 points or anything
