Is it normal to get nervous going up or down stairs?

It’s like almost every time I have an encounter with stairs, my mind thinks for a teeny split second, "Am I going to die? I don’t wanna die!" I always make it up or down the stairs fine though and have never fallen. I don’t think I have climacaphobia. I’m not afraid of the stairs themselves.

EDIT: A few days ago I was at the top of the stair landing in the hallway straightening a picture and I was mildly terrified I would lose my balance, fall backwards, and end up in the hospital.

My wife is fine going upstairs but is really nervous going down. She must have cow genes because you can lead a cow upstairs but never down. This is a known fact.

I've only ever lived in one house with stairs, and I rather miss it.

Stairs, and stairwells especially, are a hazard, so some fear is warranted and healthy. Paralyzing fear isn't.
