Is it normal to get panic attacks when seeing spiders?

I think I have really bad arachnophobia. If I see a spider (living or dead) I'll start breathing really quickly and sometimes cry, and if it's in my house I'll completely avoid that room/place for several days. I thoroughly check my bed for spiders every night and I rarely open my window in case they come in.

I quite like spiders. They eat mosquitoes and other pest insects.

Work on your fear. Go to the pet store and just look at the tarantulas. Remind yourself they're in cages.

Learn about spiders, what they can do and what they can't. Learn what spiders are native to your area and in what frequency.

I'll tell you this right now, unless you're in the Pacific Northwest or Florida (or another tropical/desert place) the only type of spiders around you in abundance are house browns and house blacks. They're perfectly harmlesss and they eat other insects that are pests to humans.

Tarantulas are a good stepping point because they move very slowly (unless you spook them) and cannot pierce skin. I've found the freakiest thing about a spider is the way they walk. Seeing them move slowly helps me understand the mechanics of their body and lessens the fear.

  • Seeing a large one or a poisonous one makes me feel faint.
I once confused a sand crab for a tarantula and I started to pass out, but forced myself to stay conscious so that I could flee. All I feel is sheer terror.

I wish they were noisy, so that they could never sneak up on you.

I dont mind them when they are outside. Last night though, there was one in my bathroom on the floor. It looked like it worked out. I call them muscle spiders. It looked bigger than your normal house spider. Anyway, I gathered a couple of papertowels and it got flushed.

My daughter is really afraid of them like you. She won't even get the vacuum hose to get them. She thinks they will escape at night and find her. And she is 28 years old!!
