Yes, I agree with your diagnosis. By the diathesis-stress hypothesis, he has an inherent propensity for this kind of mania, worked upon by the repeated stress of Hallmark Syndrome.
I hope he recovers from this terrible affliction; one that has taken so many of our brave soldiers in the fight against the commercialisation of human emotion. Whatever you do, don't send him a Get Well card. You'll finish him off!

lol, I had no idea there was such irony in the greetings card industry. They should start selling "Hope you die soon" cards as people receiving them would probably then get better.
In fact, this could be a whole range.
For weddings, "Hope you end up divorced and with the STI your husband got off a hooker".
For births, "Fondest wishes that your newborn is a heroin addict before the age of eight".
For funerals, "Don't you be pretending to be dead and jump out of that coffin, now".
And you really don't want to see the new range of Mother's Day cards. They misappropriate the use of the word "mother" in a terrible, terrible way. ;)
