Is it normal to go for the faculty you like no matter what?

I always liked Japan and the japanese language, and I'm planing to study japanese at university because learning about japan is the only thing that makes me truly happy. But, I am always concerned that I will become like those beggars you see on the street, beacause I don't know whether there is a job after that. ''Follow your dreams!'' I say to everyone, but inside, I'm very afraid.

I work for a University and apart from certain fields (medicine, dentistry, law, nursing, social work) most people find work within areas other than the degree conferred upon them. The value of a degree is that it shows you are capable of applying yourself, of working hard, and of having an average to above average level of intelligence.

Language degrees are good because they enable you to one day work in the country whose language you are learning. They also form very good "combined study" programmes where you do a standard degree subject with a language option. Because each language department generally offers a combined study option you can mix and match your main subject with any language taught at that University.

Thank you, this was very reassuring. I'll work hard and believe in myself in the future! I'll probably go for English and German as my second and third languages, since English is not my mother tounge... thanks again!

A lot of people don't actually get a job in the same field they studied in college. Also, language pairs well with just about every other study possibility out there. If you like Japanese, study it now. You will likely never have a better opportunity to do so.
