Is it normal to hate almost every single book i try to read?

I was a huge reader as a kid, but growing up I began to read less and less frequently and now read next to nothing. I'm particular about food and what I want in a boyfriend as well, so books aren't the only thing I'm picky about, but every time I pick up a book I find something to hate about it.

I especially hate fantasy. Last year I tried to convince myself I was absolutely and totally in love with Lord of the Rings and Dragonlance, but the more I read, the more bored I became with them and in the end I decided I was sick of them. I did like the Harry Potter books a lot when I read them as a kid, but rereading them later in life I decided I couldn't stand them one bit. Crime fiction also really bores me, as does sci-fi, and romance stuff like Twilight and 50 Shades of Grey is terrible too.

Are there other non-readers out there, or am I the only one?

I read wisdom books like The Secret. I read and research a lot of stuff on the internet but that is not consider books. If its not coming out in the movie theaters then it was obviously not worth reading. I tried to read the Hunger Games but I decided to just watch the movie online. That is what movies are made for.

Classics are just as bad... they're just too boring and everyone is named Jane and James and Elizabeth, if not something weird like Kitty-Lou... it's not just the names either, it's the fact that they're so Western (I prefer books set in Asia).

There's just lots of shyte books on the shelves. Recently, I started to find that books that are studied in schools are usually quite good. Other than that, there's always goodreads.com and just read the reviews and see the ratings :) And don't forget to leave your own rating and review when you encounter a crappy book!

Sadly, there are a lot of non-readers out there...

Try non-fiction, or historical fiction, or adventure, or a classic, or art history, or a how to tie knots guidebook, or a travel book, or a guide to home brew, or biographies, etc.
