Is it normal to hate facebook?

I don't have a Facebook, and I am constantly being asked to get one so I can be someone's friend. I find it causes so many problems with other people. I just feel there is nobody (except my family-husband and kids) I need to contact or read about every day. I know I have the option of when or how often I check it, but my sister has one and gets emails because she didn't respond right away from a post.

It's ok. You don't have to get one if you don't want to. It's not for everyone. I have one but within the last month I tried to distance myself from it because I was always on it. It's actually nice not being on all the time. You're normal :)

Okay, FB doesn't collect data for the government. It collects data for corporations. The government really couldn't give less of a shit (however they may red flag you if you "like" wikileaks or anything else that goes against their pseudodemocratic-fascism-in-disguise set of ideals currently.

Whenever you click "like" on say... Cheez-Itz or Bud Lite beer, that advertiser has you in their pocket. You get put on a list. Maybe you'll get some coupons or something, who knows? But you're on their list as a target for further advertising.

They take this information that you enter, compare it to other people with similar traits (say single, mid-20s, male, caucasian, likes to drink and fix cars) then they recommend further advertisements for you.

It's fucked. If you don't think it is, then you're just sucked into this culture of mass consumption like everybody else.

So yeah... I have a facebook. But I'm careful with what I write, and what I "like."

I think it's a useful tool. I protested it for over a year (deleted my account), but I found that I was missing out on a lot of socializing amongst my peer group. IDK. I use it, but I don't fully endorse it.

I'm with unrecognizable on this one I eventually got fed up with people being so shocked that I didn't have an account so I made one which I log into about once every 3 months to add anyone that has added me... For me Facebook is a just a website where people post passive aggressive messages to one another without having to mention that person's name. Facebook is just a less practical version of a mobile phone, it's useful to know when 'events' are but if you're invited there is a good chance that you will already know about said event prior to being 'invited' through Facebook. As a means of communication Facebook is a load of shite compared to VERBAL communication. Rant over :)

P.S Facebook is very useful if you are a pervert 'nuff said.

Try being 18 without facebook haha people my age are genuinly confused as to why I don't and call me weird - its all a social competition, people doing stuff to post on facebook about doing it to be seen as something they aren't, who gives a flying fuck

I agree. Facebook for me means censorship, for one. Once you get one, you will have every family member, every coworker and every friend you ever had, plus half of *their* friends showing up to spy on you. Not saying my whole life is a secret, but there are just some things you don't want your family or coworkers to see you talking about with your friends. And friends of friends can see what you say too, pretty easily. For example, I have coworkers I like friended. But they have coworkers I hate friended... So those ones I hate can easily pop over and at least see what I say on the friend's page. Then you're interacting in the same conversation with someone you can't stand. I actually had an ex friend with a mutual friend harass me through this other friend's Facebook.

Uhh... in short, I hate Facebook too.

  • I agree with you. the only reason I would get one would be to tell them all to get the @#%* off so I can watch angry video game nerd.

Unless you do stupid shit like hook up in real life with a stranger you've only talked with on FB, there's not much danger associated with it. I think it's a great way to keep in touch with people. I have friends in ontario, NYC, and alberta (i live in british columbia) so i need something like FB to keep in touch with them all quickly.

I want to delete it sooo badly but I'm addicted :S seriously, don't ever get one unless you want the whole world (including bosses, police, CIA, etc) to know every little detail of your social life.

You're not alone. I hate Facebook, because all my friend want me to get it to only talk s**t on other people with me. I just say, "Get yahoo if you need me so badly."
So me, I hate facebook, always will, and I'll never join it. (Wait, in 2 years I have a facebook)
