Is it normal to hate first person view games?

I really hate when games have first person view it's just annoying! That's why I don't play FPS games (except Mass Effect)

I just don't like when I can't see anything around me just everything in front of me. I prefer 3rd person view because I can see more of the world and even my back so I don't have to be scared of being killed from behind.

Most of people I know however play only first person games so am I normal?

    • Yeah but I mean the parts when you're zooming with scoped weapon which really annoyed me.

I don't play video games since I tried playing alien Vs predators while at work and shouted out of fear when I was attacked and all my co-workers rushed to see what was happening. They thought something bad had happened. 1st person is terrifying.

    • haha yes 1st person is good way to play horror games such as Amnesia but it's much scarier so I avoid them.

Yeah, they bother the living hell out of me. I get that 1st person makes it more personal and realistic, but I don't play video games to remind myself of reality.

We sometime is done very well an being first person adds to the drama and makes the experience more personal. Example Farcry3 did this exceptionally well. Cause the focused on the little things to make it seem build and natural. Idk many gave I any sneak u on a pair of pirates to stealth kill when a patrol suddenly swing by the opposite way and I become the ambushed, the I fight my way to a jeep but flip it on a bridge and try to escape diving into the water, to only right before I hit, get snaged by a goddamn croc sitting under the surface..... damn croc, I nearly soiled myself

Here I was thinking that I was the only one:O I can't stand them!!!! This is why I have so few games in that format. The only ones I can think of that I have are Metroid Prime (1,2 & 3). I think I would really enjoy and be good at those games if they weren't in that format. It screws up with the camera angles and I can't get bearings with games like that. I was playing 3 and there was a time limit and for the life of me, I couldn't remember/recognise that area enough to escape. >_< The only first person game I can remember liking was the James Bond game that was on Nintendo64.

The idea with 1st person games is to be immersive & involve the player in the game more. I personally don't think there's a problem with it but I can understand why some people wouldn't like it.

I can't stand 3rd person games, it ruins it for me and kind of reminds me that the whole experience isn't real when i see around a wall.

Good thing WoW (World of War Craft) has all of those. You can zoom out so you can see tons of stuff around you and change all sorts of angles, or zoom in so you can't see your hands, or zoom in but keep a bit of your character in the screen so it will be kinda invisible.
I totally understand why you don't like it because there are some games in which the character has to be kind of hiding from enemies, and if they fail they will get shot and the game will be over. But it seems more realistic lol :)

I would say its normal since I can understand wanting to see behind you to avoid being flanked. As others have said, its just a different style to make things more realistic as if you were there yourself. I don't think the first classic Doom game would be as intense if you could see those demons all around you in 3rd person. If you don't prefer it then its completely okay.

For me personally, I don't mind them but I can't stand the usual Call of Duty type games as they feel really repetitive these days. I don't hate on its popularity and they are fun to play, its just that games like the Crysis and Metroid Prime series takes FPS and makes something original. Then there are those annoying online players who like to scream and swear at other players like they lack self control. It mostly happens in FPS games and hardly anyone does that in fighting games since it takes more than just holding L1/LB and R1/RB for two seconds to win. I just don't want to be a normal soldier anymore, been there and done that. Then there is the really fun TPS Vanquish that is also unique.

With some FPS games there's an option to use 3rd person mode somewhere hidden away in the settings.

For me it's actually the other way around because I think playing in 3rd person sucks and I really hate it...
