Is it normal to hate getting useless answer when asking for advice?

Like if you say "I can not decide if I should take math or science in university as a major" so they say "Only fate will tell. Believe that fate will show you the way". So you say "Well I am signing for classes tomorrow. What should I do"? and they say "Only fate will tell". What kind of shitty answer is this? If you need to do something NOW waiting is not going to fix it later. Doesn't that mean they are telling you to be irresponsible?

      OP
My advice is to think about it on the can as you take a dump

I don't like it either. My mam (and several other family members) do this a lot. According to them, the solution to pretty much everything is "positive energy" or to ask your angel for help. It's not productive or helpful at all, and how they think it works is beyond me. The fate thing sounds worse, and it is useless. You're the one who has to chose, not "fate".

    So yeah, I agree.

They probably gave you a "useless" answer because they didn't think that they should really answer a question that you should decide on your own.

But, yeah, even knowing that, I also hate getting advice like that. Normal.

I think it's probably their attempt to relieve some of your stress by suggesting ultimately it's down to fate, but I agree, it's totally useless in a practical sense. You just have to be more overt with those kind of people I guess - explicitly ask them for some practical advice and help in discussing the advantages and disadvantages.

Or don't ask 'those people', ask someone who will give you straight, functional assistance without the airy, ambiguous spiritualism.

    • Well I did "I said that does not help me now" and they said "Everyone has something waiting for them. You just have to wait and find it. Only fate can tell". I have nothing against people being spiritual but this kind of stuff is such a peeve.

Luckily for me I don't know many people who say stuff like that at all, if any.

Like I said, perhaps you just need to ask different people. People who have their feet on the ground rather than their heads in the clouds.

It's like Muslims who say inch'allah every next sentence. Or alhamdullilah.
As if Allah existed in the first place lol.

I like Insha'Allah. It's a nice sounding expression, although I couldn't get away with saying it (neither being muslim nor an Arabic speaker).

What the hell do you expect? IIN? is comprised primarily of preteens and immature adults, most of whom wouldn't have sense enough to come in out of a shower of shit! We've had a few people here who gave fairly decent answers, but people like dappled, charli.m and others hounded them to the point they left the site!

    • It was not on IIN. This was from people I know! I actually was not talking about the IIN community in this.

They must've had thin skin to leave. No one will hound me with that result. I actually create fudge slides whenever I'm on the can.

Oh not me. I go around cheering people up, telling them to take a load off by having a peaceful dump.

Lol, why are you asking other people what subject to Major in? That should be a choice for you to make, not for your parents or teachers or friends.

I feel the same way. Whenever I ask my mother for an in-depth answer to something, I always get a ridiculous response. Whenever she talks about a confounding irrelevancy or takes the question in a joking manner, I feel like crying.

i think you should go to math. and when they give you that answer they don't want to help and really don't care.

It means they are telling you to grow up and make your own decision. It is worse when people give answers with no knowledge of what they are saying and lead you down a mistaken path. Consider yourself lucky to be with people who honestly won't give you an answer when they don't know the answer.
