Know what I can't stand?
When I call customer service and end up getting someone whose accent I can not comprehend.
I feel like an ignorant, racist, American twat for having to constantly ask them "can you repeat that?".
They're probably thinking that I'm the stereotypical "Uncultured, fat, American redneck that hasn't set foot outside their trailer park/comfy little suburban neighborhood".
It's harder to understand certain accents over the phone and Indian has always been one of those accents for me =/
Sorry, yeah sure, normal but I think I dislike telemarketers in general. But hey, they're just trying to make a living like the rest of us. I just hang up.
I usually say to them that they have the wrong number and hang up or ask them "does this make a sound?" And hang up. Either way I win. 7 me, 0 them, so far.
U have to understand, when we have jobs we try our best to be a good employer. This person is just doin his/her job. Remember india is a third world country & its very hard to make money. Thats y i love america theres nowhere else place i want to live but here at the land of opportunity..
India has the fastest growing economy on the planet. They are in the top twenty in the world for both exporting and importing goods. India should already be moved off the 3rd world list, and they will be soon.
The term "Third World" is actually a term that described a countries allegiance during the cold war. First World Countries were aligned with the US, Second World Countries were aligned with the Soviet Union, and Third World Countries were neutral.
Because many poorer or undeveloped countries were in the Third World, that term became associated with poor, undeveloped countries. But not all Third World Countries fit this mold. Brazil, for example is a Third World Country. India's neutrality in the cold was is what makes them a Third World Country.
Because the Cold War is over, and the Soviet Union has disbanded, the term is now irrelevant.
Well it is normal to hate telemarketers, not Indian telemarketers specifically. And you asked a question that how do they get your number? Well these people work for MNCs and these MNCs may belong to your country and they provide them with data to call on. They are just doing there jobs and I hope you might have had a good Customer Service experience at some point and the possibilities of that Executive being an Indian is about 80%. Maybe you thought it was an American but trust me over the years many Indians have got good with accents. Moreover, when you have a good conversation with someone you may unintentionally fail to notice the accent.
So ask yourself, do you hate 'INDIAN' Telemarketers or just telemarketers.
I like them, even though I've probably never encountered one (or, have I?). I don't mind them, they need their jobs. I did mind this "comedy" show on NBC about this American who was made to move to India by his company, so he could train Indian telemarketers. It was racist and insulting.
Sometimes I'll lead them on and keep them on the phone, go to the toilet and take a dump so they can hear it.
Funny, I always get the Asian telemarketers. Its hard to understand what they are saying sometimes.
I'm sure if they had more employment opportunities, they wouldnt choose that job - would you.
Many countries have a do not call register. When they ring tell them to remove your number from their database and ask for their name so if you keep getting calls you will report them. Stop giving your number out helps as well and stop giving companies that have your number permission to give your number out.
