Is it normal to hate people who play loud music?

WHY do so many people insist on playing loud music and they don't give a crap who they disturb? Like people who need their sleep because they have to get up early for work. WHY, if you ask these people politely to turn it down, they get so ignorant and turn it up even louder?? I had a neighbor who was taking care of her elderly Aunt who had cancer and was going through chemotherapy. She asked her neighbor next door to please keep the music down. Her neighbor was an ignorant piece of garbage who didn't care at all that the woman's poor Aunt was very sick from the chemo and truly needed some peace and quiet. She tried calling the police but that is a joke because when they are called for loud neighbors they don't show up for about 4 or 5 hours and by that time the music has stopped. All I know is, if someone knocked on my door and asked me to please turn down my music or TV, I would be glad to do it for them and I would apologize for disturbing them. WHY is it that so many people out there are so ignorant and have no class at all?? I guess it's true that when you're raised by garbage you act like garbage.

You should take this rant up with the person currently playing loud music

And then what does one do if they ignore the request? I've been tempted to turn my neighbour's power off at the external metre but I do have to live next door to them so I haven't done so

I did. They resent it and it just got louder. That's how garbage acts. They don't give a hoot about nothing and no one but themselves. The good part is I'll be moving in few months.

I like playing my music loud (whether I have headphones or not) but if someone were to tell me to turn it down, I would.

It's normal to get annoyed by obnoxious people, so yes.

We used to always say "If it's too loud you're too old"

Don't think it has much to do with age. I don't think a young woman with a new baby wants to hear loud garbage all the time. She needs to sleep and so does the baby. And to a young man who needs to get up early for work. He can't sleep because of some ignorant a---holes. Anyone, young or old, doesn't want to hear this garbage when they really need their sleep. Not even a teenager who might be exhausted and really needs to go to bed.

You have my sympathy. I live in a quiet peaceful mountain area, next door to bogans who think it's ok to START the loud doof doof with bass so heavy I can feel it affecting my heart beat, at 2 or 3 am.

Fortunately this only happens maybe half a dozen times a year and I'm not prepared after the first time to get up, get dressed and confront a group of drunk aggro blokes, so now I call the police, who do take a while to arrive.

The problem with people who love very loud music is that they've already damaged their hearing and don't realise how loud it is, as you can see on public transport where so many young people have their headphones up to high.

I'm only sorry I won't live long enough to see most of an entire couple of generations having to wear hearing aids, but they're not going to like it when it happens.

If it's happening all the time close to you, are there other avenues you can go down to have it stopped? EPA, local authorities, intervention order, the person's landlord?

Oh Lord, sounds terrible. Not much I can do because they own their house. Whenever someone rents a house, I always make sure I find out the owner's phone number. But these pieces of garbage next door do not rent so I cannot call the owner like I've done in the past and thankfully it had stopped. The good part is I am moving in a few months. Funny I used to envy people like you who live in "quiet areas" but I see even loud ignorant folks can live there too. I'm glad it's not constant. They do stop for a while. Ear plugs have helped but have also irritated my ears. No one should have to wear them because we all deserve to live in peace! It's true that many people have damaged their hearing, especially the young. But then you have ignorant people who have no hearing problems. They just don't care about anyone else. I wish you the Best and hope things improve.

I tried earplugs for these neighbours but the problem is they have the bass up so loud I can still feel it! Even putting on my own favourite peaceful music - Coltrane or Miles Davis - doesn't drown out their so-called music. At least they only do it fairly rarely

It is, it is, it is! Mountains, forest, beautiful river, live music (not as much as used to be but still some) and a choice of good food/coffee places .... also one of the most dangerous bushfire areas in the world, so the summers can be quite scary and far too many newage entrepeneurs for my liking, but you can't have everything eh?

disturbing the peace is against the law, but the cops hate responding to something this minor, so i would just keep calling them so much maybe they'll put a stop to it!

Thanks for the personal reply, Ellenna! You are so right! Those who think they look "cool" by driving around in a car with blasting music, really look like a MORON!! They're too stupid to know that a lot of people are calling them morons and ignorant a----holes which is what they truly are!!

I also hate it when drivers play music in their car loud enough to deafen everything within a five mile radius. They drive around with their speakers blasting and think "Look at me! Don't I look so cool?" and I think "No, you look like a moron". Hehehe the truth hurts..

I used to live in a place where people would drive by with rap music cranked up so loud you couldnt hear the tv in front of you. Then when they get pulled over by the police they used the race card and said they pulled me over for being black.

Um yes! That's why God made earbuds. Not everyone likes someone else's taste and especially not LOUD.

No one should have to wear earplugs. People have a right to live in peace. If it were up to me, these ignorant pieces of scum would go to jail if they don't do as they're asked the first time. This might sound silly to some people, but those who disturb others in the middle of the night and really don't care, SHOULD be locked up. But I am a believer in "What goes around, comes around". I believe that the day will come when these ignorant pieces of garbage will really need a favor from someone, and that person will refuse their request and turn away, just like they did to me and others. It might not happen for a long time, but it WILL happen. Sooner or later everyone gets their day. Best part of all this is that I'll be moving in a few months! Already checked out the place really well and they do NOT tolerate noise!
