Is it normal to hate texting abbreviations?

I view anyone who uses texting abbreviations as lazy and immature. If anyone texts me with abbreviations and purposeful misspellings, I'd refuse to reply. The most insulting to me are the one letter ones, (r, u, k). I just don't understand why people can't just text normally.

You can't control people...let them express themselves how they will. I find it equally annoying when someone thinks I shouldn't use abbreviations. And you are being insulting by not replying. Something else has brought about this feeling which you might need to figure out. You over-interpret the texts because this really shouldn't bother u. U should try getting used to it. This is a good post btw...lots of people have this problem.

"IIN" is a texting abbreviation. And, in your own words, "I view anyone who uses texting abbreviations as lazy or immature"

Any initialism is not automatically a conventional "abbreviation" (as you call it) for use in a typical text message.

So do I. I especially was expected to do this when I was younger, to seem "hip" and save money on the phone bill. I still don't like doing it. In fact, I refuse to do it!!!!

I feel like that too! I get angry when people say "lol or gtg" and am afraid if I use things like "brb or lol" people wil think I'm lazy.
