Is it normal to hate those greeting cards that have sound?

Ever since they first appeared on the scene, I've hated those cards that play sounds when you open them.

First of all, I find the sound annoying. The whole idea is just so over the top and aggressive. Second, they cost $5 and up!! what a waste of cash. Third, they create yet more toxic waste that goes into landfills.

I have a relative who apparently loves them and sends one for every holiday. Yay Christmas is coming so I'll have another soon!

Side Note: Does anyone know if the electronics in the card can be repurposed for anything? I mean ANYTHING. Because I'd rather repurpose it than just toss it like I've been doing, but I'm inept with electronics so that's why I haven't tried yet.

is it normal to despise these contraptions?

I hate them. I hate all things that make noise for no reason. When my family bought me Christmas presents their idea of putting "thought" into it was to buy me something I'd normally own but that makes noise. For instance, I wear neckties to work so they bought me necktie with a Christmas pudding motif and that plays a Christmas jingle at random intervals. Seriously, am I going to wear that to work? And have it blurt out throughout meetings like an annoying mobile phone that doesn't have a silent mode. And if I'm not going to wear it to work, where else would I wear it? I don't do anything else that necessitates a tie apart from weddings and funerals and I'm sure I'd be most popular at those when the priest announces that we'll be singing hymn #47 and my tie starts beeping "Deck The Halls With Boughs Of Holly".

As for repurposing them, you could always Tippex out your name on the card, make it out to someone else, and repurpose it as a greeting card for someone else!

Have you watched Easy A? Ugh, I hate this song, then she starts singing it all weekend, even in the shower. that could be you if you would quit throwing those cards away. At least mark out your name and send them to someone else, or better yet put something on top of your name.

I don't know who invited those freaking noise makers, but I wish whoever it is had everyone one of them stuck up his or her rear end!

Gah!! I hate these too!! I have really sensitive hearing, and they hurt my ears. Fuck greeting cards with sound chips. ><

I hate them too. They are tacky and loud. I actually despise most greeting cards as the messages now tend to be so saccharine they seem spurious. The ones that don't tend to contain crude humor. Blank cards are the best.

I think they are stupidly funny especially when its a badly translated cheap one from some place somewhere.

I just generally dislike cards, but I guess that might only be because I don't really understand the point of them. I just don't understand why you'd pay to give someone something saying something like "happy birthday" on it. Why not just say "happy birthday" to them?:S Confusing!

And I dislike those ones that natter on as well. For the above reasons, except with the speaky ones instead of paying for someone else's written words you're getting someone else to actually speak them for you. I just don't get it. Why?!
