Is it normal to hate tourists?

Is it normal I hate the tourists that come to my town? They usually walk super slow, stand in the way all the time, ask stupid questions instead of just using a map, then feel offended when you don't have time to answer them. Once, this one tourist woman stood right on the bike lane even though she saw me approaching on my bike, to take a photo rather than waiting for one second. They're slow, dumb, stand in the way and are loud. It's like uninvited guests in your home. I don't think I let myself go as much when I travel to other countries.

  • What? They bring money, and some are hot.

    • Only a negligibly small amount of them are hot and since I don't work in hotel or souvenir business or as a tourguide, I don't really profit from their money at all.

Even when I'm a tourist, other tourists annoy me. That's why I pick strange travel destinations, the kinds of places the locals are gobsmacked to meet an outsider.

I hate being a tourist. Whenever I'm in a foreign country I try to blend into the croud. And when I don't speak the language I don't talk at all. You would probably never know I'm a tourist.
    So think about that.
You probably don't really hate ALL tourists. You just hate the one you can identify as such.
It's like when someone says: "All Italians have black hair" - Just because when they don't he can't identify them as Italians.

I grew up in a tourist town, and I know how obnoxious they can be, but do remember that they bring in money and are good for the local economy.

I have never met a tourist in my life. I think I would really like a tourist. Someone could like me for being in my country apposed to those fucking idiots that worship japan. I would love someone to ask me things about where I am from instead of telling me how stupid I am for being born where I am from by other citizens born in this country. I don't understand how you can be racist to your own kind. I mean fuck your one of them. I could show around helpless strangers and everything. That would be fun! I would feel helpful and not have to hate myself.

Generally people complain about tourists, even if they are good for their city. The reason for this is probably just like you stated, they can get annoying after a while. My Dad and Stepmother live in Florida, and they often joke about things like how the tourists should all go back to where they came from.

Everybody complains about tourists until they stop coming and the local economy tanks. They are a necessary evil for many towns.

Well since you didn't list your town, we can't debate the truth of your statement. It is possibly true, possibly false.

Those bastards!!! *Grits teeth* But I'm sure what your country/town cares about is the money and attention they bring in.

I was recently in Maui, Hawaii. I stayed with the locals, no fancy resort, no amenities and no air conditioning. But it was an eye opening experience.

At a large park/plantation we went to for gay fest is a tourist attraction. I noticed the tourists all seemed over weight and some wore loud Hawaiian shirts, not the kind the locals wear. They just sit on their fat asses and take all the buses and trains and don't go out and explore and meet the locals. It really bothered me for some reason. Also, I tore a hamstring entering a race there and I managed to make it over to a bench. I could barely walk and was clearly in pain. The tourists just walked by and never offered help. Only one local merchant offered help. From now on when I'm out somewhere and someone is hurt or needs help, I'm going to at least inquire. Perhaps people are afraid to "get involved" in fear it is some kind of scam, or that they will be blamed. That is nonsense. Has anyone reading this ever helped someone? Tourist or not?

Oh my. I could go on for days about tourists. I get them quite often in the sandwich shop, outside of my flat, everywhere! I find them to be very annoying. They stop in the middle of the side-walk in huge groups and ooo and awe at everything in sighte. Drives me mad.
However I know that they aren't doing it on purpose and are just trying to enjoy themselves so I try not to worry about it so much.
Even locals are annoying as fuck a majority of the time.
